<<<I had one situation on 4/16 when I was checking.>>> There you go again, another situation. I thought about stopping now and hope you get the point. But I am not sure.

<<<Also Drake is programmed in Powerbasic with simpler code construction unlike .net etc>>> Taxed, a Drake professional programmer too? Where does your ability end at!! Why can't I read a post without a comment from you?

One Desk is willing to give me training!!!
Terry D EA replied to mrichman333's topic in OLTPRO / OneDesk
<<<<Is OneDesk a rebrand of OLTPro? I believe OLTPro is on sale till June??>>>> Oh please read, read, read! We discussed this two months ago. Also, it is June and I am still getting messages on voicemail from them. There goes that crystal ball thing again. From my opinion, another cheap not functional software that I can't trust. I did try it and they can't understand and handle trust returns. have you figured out yet that "Cheap" isn't the best route yet? How about reliability shouldn't that be a must? -
Taxed, I am amazed at how you know so much! Bet you didn't get a refund from TRX either. Here is what I know, I feel for those who didn't get a refund. Some of us were lucky and maybe those same ones didn't become such a PITA and Doug or Karen felt a miniscule of compassion. The truth is, I DON"T KNOW AND I AM DEFINITELY ABLE TO SAY SO! You have writtem(7) responses to this post which were all for the most part, wrong! Now for the final question, and I must say at the risk of numerous follow-ups, after all the crap you received from TRX why in the %^$# would you want to even consider using them or care if someone else even filed a return. Now, I can answer that one truthfully, I never filed a return nor would I due to all of the crap. <<<It is my understanding that Tax Exact is looking for people to rebrand their software under their own name and resell it!>>>> Where do you get this stuff from? I mean really? <<<That new refund policy applies to new sales only.>>> If you take time to quite posting and read, you will see the refund policy is the same old piece of crap they used in the past. <<<<But I think they stopped giving out any refunds to former clients who were stuck with a non functional 2012 version.>>> I guess the bulb in your crystal ball is quite dim. I am one of those folks with a non-functional piece of junk software and a former client for the past four years.but low and behold, I got a refund!! Give it a break already.

<<<Gene you may have to disable Microsoft Silverlight or adjust the properties to see if that helps.>>> <<<Also I believe Win 7 can be run under "Classic View" that is more like XP.>>> Taxed, Damn, now you are a computer expert too!! Go back and read your posts and see if you find where you contridict your own statements.

<<<Form 1099-R from his pension has been issued in the estate's EIN for 2012.>>>> IRS will be looking for form 1041. Stay with Jack on this one. <<<I must get 3 or 4 every year from folks who neglected to file the 1041.>>> If you constantly get all this stuff as you mention in virtually all of your posts, I don't know how you have time to POST!

pass thru depletion from S-corp - where does it go?
Terry D EA replied to schirallicpa's topic in General Chat
I guess I need to start responding to every post whether I am right or wrong so I can get some more stars/dots by my name and promote my status. Geez! What happened to giving correct information to help others? I know one thing which is I don't respond if I don't know and I may research to help if I have time. I also, know that I have been preparing taxes for 17 years now and have not had a client that matches every scenario. Hell, even if I did, I couldn't remember it all. -
You probably don't need my two cents worth by now. But, John and Jainen have given the best advice here.

i too attended a seminar last year with no follow up from drake. They promised the four hours CEU which I never got. The seminar was more of a sales pitch then actual preparation. I once again, will load the demo cd and try again so I can make a good sound decision for next season.

While cleaning up my desktop machine, I discover that I still had the 2000, thru 2008 ATX program installed and all files/tax returns created for those years residing on an external harddrive atached to the machine. Should I do some kind of archive on this or would you just remove the programs and delete the files. There are backups for each year on CD's as well. I can't imagine someone needing tax returns prepared that far back.

I haven't received anyting from TRX either and I count it as a blessing.

I am looking into Drake as well. I just received their demo disk and would like to complete a couple of returns that I have on extension to see how it works.

Okay, I'm going on this rant regarding OneDesk. I have been trying to resolve an issue with the calcualtion of the Schedule D for Trusts. OneDesk insists they are calculating the form correctly. Yes, they are for a 1041!!!! But... for form 5227 they are not. The friggin instructions for the form state for 1041 filers to fill out section three (I think as it is the section for calcualting the cap gains tax). the other parts of the form reference the amounts to the trust and the beneies. So, forget it OneDesk OltPro or whoever owns this software as there is no way I will use it. Your engineers need to bone up on the tax laws. Yes, I am correct as I have been preparing this kind of return since 1994. Each and every other year has been handled correctly. I fixed the problem by manually filing out the Schedule D online at the IRS site and put it in the return. Oaky I'm done now.

Dang John you got me. I was gonna add this useless post to get a laugh. We should all ask the HRB lady in the commercials that read the 900 page book on it and she means all of it.

Does anyone know if there is an EIN matching data base that we as preparers may have access to? I have an LLC that was rejected due to the EIN being used already. This is a new LLC and the first time for filing a return. I want it to be timely so I need to get it transmitted as soon as possible.
-
It would be interesting to see if the IRS would recognize the massive problems at the end and allow for this so folks don't get penalized. Time stamped or not, considered timely filed; etc still bothers me.

My season went better than I expected. The TRX sanfu was frustrating to say the very least. Once jumped ship and switch to TaxSlayer Pro, no problems and it was smooth sailing from there. If there is anything bad at TaxSlayer, that would be the lack of a good method of 1099 MISC input, missing forms with trust returns and some forms missing from NC. There were doable work arounds and these issues were minor at best. No e-filing problems, no delays and my last batch was accepted as normal last evening. With this said, I am still unsure of what package to use next year.

I agree we all have those clients who don't tell everything and in doing so, it does reflect on us. Had one call today and inform me that they forgot to tell me about the repayment of the first time homebuyer credit. You can't over come this. I am not attempting to bash CPA's or any other type of preparer. CPA's are put into a group that simply by the CPA designation are the ones that know and by the very nature of the CPA designation are held to a high standard. That does not make the infailable. I personally know CPA's that won't touch taxes and want nothing to do with them. I couldn't agree with you more regarding the big box tax chain companies. They always seem to find a loop hole to get around the requifrements. Look at all the privacy requirements. How is setting in one room with 7 cubicles private?

<<<I also limit myself to amend or to let the TP know the consequences of his actions and go back to the job I was hired for, which was to prepare current year's tax return.>>> This I agree with, but I will not proceed if I know the client has income to report regardles of the source for the tax year that I am preparing. <<<That surprises me in a forum that generally objected to IRS calls for education and testing.>>>> I for one have been part of this forum for a long time and never complained about the testing and extra education requirements. I think the IRS should do this as each and every person that sits on the other side of my desk has the right to know the person they are in front of is qualified. I also feel that CPAs, EA's and Attorney's should not be expempt from the testing requirements. They make as many errors as others. No matter what designation is behind your name, none of them mean you are ethical or a person of integrity.
-
That was true in my client's case and after the interest and other expenses were entered they still had a loss and didn't fully understand how that benefited them.
-
Mine are gone and I will wait till the morning to see if and when they were accepted. I don't have any fears and Taxslayer Pro has never given us the notice that CCH is. Hopefully, the time of transmission means something. Stamped on all my reports.

I would think that a professional would indeed insist on the client preparing an accurate return and if the client refuses, then refuse to do the return. I think the preparer can be generous on the fees if they want to. in this case, it only took 10 minutes to complete the Sch E with the depreciation. So, to gain a client, I kept the fee down.

Wow, it is now 10:00 PM EST. Just filed my last extension and tax return. Five left to be picked up, and a few more to do after a break. I will finally get to see the 10:00 news. Good night to all of you and I hope this has been a prosperous season for all. Get some rest as it is well deserved! If I could, I'd sleep in till Wednesday.

Hey I'm feeling a little left out here or even possibly slighted. I haven't gotten my renewal letter yet. I wonder, and yet it seems as though the ones who are getting the renewal letters are the ones who didn't get a refund. Am I right with this or just plain crazy? If it is true, I mean come on really?
