  1. My thoughts exactly. Belongs in Box 7. I will talk with my client. This was a drop-off so I haven't had the opportunity to speak with them yet.
  2. I have not had this problem. Did it occur after the last update? I updated about an hour ago and have not completed any returns since and this makes me wonder. Sorry, I can't be of any assistance here. If you call support, I would like to know how long it takes for you to get a return call or for someone to answer.
  3. Good grief, it makes you wonder how many more there are out there. Thanks for posting this, I have been in negotiations with an individual who is currently employed with Liberty Tax regarding opening up a remote location. Now, I am wondering what they are being taught and am thinking about withdrawing the whole idea with this person. If I am thinking correctly, Liberty Tax was up there with HRB and the law suits with the old refund loan programs. Again, Jack's comments from previous years may apply here "Run Forest Run"
  4. Have a client that is doing educational consulting work. They received form 1099 MISC with income is box 3. In my opinion, this should have been in box 7 subject to SE tax. I am thinking to include this as SE tax income anyway. Opinions please.
  5. Just wondering if anyone is charging extra to complete these forms. I have had quite a few start coming in and each one of them is almost a full page of entries. More so than a W-2 form. Because this is the first year for these forms, I am wondering whether the software will keep prior year information. I do not want to raise rates but these forms are a pain. Also, I noticed the majority of the 1095-B do not have the employer EIN. The box is X'd out and no information flows from the W-2.
  6. I would say yes as long as she has the receipts and they are specific for the educational expenses for the 2015 tax year.
  7. Agree with Lion, the LLC defaults to a partnership and the other scenarios. I am sure you know this, but if it is a partnership you use form 1065 and the rental property on form 8825.
  8. Rita, I do like your response here and do agree you did the right thing. Yes, there are crooked preparers everywhere. The taxpayer, while ultimately responsible for every line on the tax return, will usually place trust in the person who is preparing their return. In your situation it appears your client was confused and became concerned about the situation and sought your services. I also agree different areas bring different pricing. Penalizing the crap out of this client for another preparer's inadequacy by raising fees on them would likely chase them away. The approach you took will guarantee a repeat client in the future. Frustrating and a lot of work I know, but good call on this one.
  9. Well it is not quite that easy. You still have to do the calculations based on the bronze level plan and see if it exceeds 8.05% of their income and if so, then not affordable. don't forget there is the filing threshold that comes into play to determine poverty level and affordability. I would do the worksheet to cover myself and just not take their word for it and check the box.
  10. I don't think there is any difference either. The main difference I am experiencing is with Dan at OneDesk support. For some reason, he doesn't return phone calls. I know we had words over an issue we had that I thought we had come to terms on so I hope that is not the reason he doesn't call me. I started calling about the partner capital account issue in my other post a week ago and up till this moment, no return phone calls and I had to figure it out on my own. I can't do business this way. So, and when the time comes, I will talk with OltPro to see if they will support the product better and if so, then I will make my decision. Is anyone else experiencing this type of support or is it just me?
  11. I must have worked on this return too long. I keep saying basis and it is the partner's beginning capital account. Forgive me.
  12. For anyone who wants to know. I did find the input for the partner beginning capital account on the Sch M-2. This return did not have a balance sheet in it from the previous year. The partner capital account on the balance sheet for the previous year is where the beginning basis input is.
  13. BTW- If anyone has looked at the MFJ vs MFS comparison tool, it is working right this year. So, another area fixed.
  14. I think the program is working quite well this season. I too check entered by ERO box and no problems. I will definitely be moving to OltPro or some other program at the end of the season. If OneDesk works well, I will probably go to OltPro so I don't have a learning curve to face. Very poor support this year from OneDesk. I had a call in for the last five days and have called several times since and no answers or return phone calls. I did find the error was me not knowing where the program input some information on the partner's capital on the balance sheet. Got that straight on my own.
  15. I too have been using Ring Central since 2008 and it is indeed flawless. The others have given you the pricing.
  16. Did she pay cleaning services over $600.00? No where to take the amount as an expense as Lynn said and I agree the misc itemized deduction subject to the 2% would probably not return anything.
  17. Hey is that tar hill or tar heel???? People are different here in the "tar heel" State of NC but not all are totally crazy. But then again.....
  18. OneDesk (OltPro) has the same partner basis analysis on the K-1 form. I have everything in this program set to allow the balance sheet. I have been out of the office today and have clients tomorrow so when I get time, I'll call support again to get this checked out.
  19. I'm not using ATX but am wondering where ATX input is for the Schedule M-2 Partner's beginning capital account. I am waiting for a return phone call from OneDesk support as I can't seem to find where this input is. The cell won't let me override or even put anything in there. Just wondering.
  20. CONGRATULATIONS!!! Bob. I agree with Jack, being a grandpa is the best. I'll have to dig up some pics. We have a total of 16 grandchildren. We have five children all who have kids. I think they are all done. Spoil the heck of out him and buy him things that makes lots of noise to payback the parents for all the irritation they put you through. Just kidding, love em to pieces.
  21. Wondering how many of you complete the balance sheet, Sch M-1 and M-2 when the gross receipts is under the 250K threshold. Maybe it is a bit anal but I for one put information on the return. If I have to complete the financials then why not put the information on the return even if it isn't required.
  22. Anyone out there using OneDesk or OltPro and completing a partnership return? On page 5, Sch M-2, I cannot find where the input for the partner beginning basis is located. I have filled out the K-1 partner basis, beginning, ending, increase/decrease. Still cannot find where the input is.
  23. I thought I remember reading somewhere the IRS is not associating the 1095 forms with the tax return again this year. Am I correct?
  24. I gotta agree with this one, certainly sounds like a partnership with guaranteed payments to me. I don't think this would considered royalty income either. The OP stated there were two people "splitting 50/50" the startup expenses which makes it a partnership. I do agree with KC as well the easy way to do this is an LLC taxed as a 1065 filer.
  25. I agree the Judge is wrong. Boy this really makes it difficult as folks see a Judge as an authority figure who "should" know and if he/she doesn't then silence is golden in these situations or at the very least, don't rule until they find out.
