  1. Revocable trust = nothing changes until something happens, such as death. Read the trust document.
  2. The only way I know how to accomplish this is to click on the e-file button to create the e-file and assign the DSN number. Then the letter changes to will be e-filed .....
  3. Wish I did, or how to make the shading lighter.
  4. In ATX there's a way to reflect the box 2 taxable amount as a rollover, without having to get a corrected 1099-R. Look at the options on box 2 of the 1099-R input page.
  5. Oh I show both fees
  6. I have charged an expedite fee for client's such as in your example, and they gladly paid it .
  7. Mardi Gras here in New Orleans in next Tuesday. Several years I left the Friday before Mardi Gras and went to Natchez MS to ride my bike there. Some years I just went to work on Mardi Gras day; depends on how I'm doing that year. This year I plan to work Monday before Mardi Gras, drive to St Francisville after work and spend Mardi Gras day catching up with good friends. So, yes, I do take a mini vacation, most years.
  8. Cathy, the children inherited their father's half and received a stepped up,basis on that half at father's death. That will not change. Then with Mother's death the children inherit Mother's half, receiving Mother's half at stepped up basis at her death. each 'half' has a differing stepped up basis. So, using the $ in your example. Half of $100,000 at father's death = $50,000 , owned by mother And $50,000 shared by children At Mother's death total house is valued at $150,000, half of which is already owned by children at their cost basis of $50,000 Children inherit Mother's half now valued at $75,000 At Mother's death total basis of house to,children is $125,000 ($50,000 and $75,000) Hope this helps Lynn EA in LA
  9. Jack, I'm not in Ohio, but I opt to download all forms for all states. I looked, and did not see Vandalia in the forms list for Ohio. Could it possibly be available on the Ohio Revenue Dept website as a fillable form? Lynn
  10. That was the problem - thanks ! ! !
  11. "They have added e-file information into the return manager this year. I see it at the bottom of my return manager. When I click on a return, the e-file status appears in the bottom window." I am not seeing that. Guess it's operator error here.
  12. my bank just informed me that as of 3/18 I have to keep a $25,000 balance to avoid a newly imposed $35 a month service charge for an account which for over 15 years has been free. My assistant was given the task of finding us a new bank; we go Sturday to interview the new, local, bank to open a new account there,
  13. MA 2013 acks and CA prior year acks outstanding We have outstanding acks from MA current year and CA prior year state returns. No action needed by the ERO or Customer Care- our EFC team is working with the states on affected returns. Posted by Stephanie Bradford 2/14/14 at 5:49 PM Labels: ATX, state software
  14. Have the client bring you the final paycheck stub. Dollars to donuts it shows the employee's share of health insurance, deducted pre-tax.
  15. Did you customize your master 1040EF form? That might be the culprit.
  16. I noticed that too, but not on all clients' letters. Very strange. I ended up 'copying and pasting' the letter into Word and then rearranging the paragraphs the way I want them. Not the best solution, but workable. I did not want to take the time to figure out how to change the paragraph order in the ATX program; re-doing it in Word was faster (for me) than learning ATX's programs work-arounds.
  17. Louisiana allows e-filing for only the current year.
  18. I received ACK's today for 2011 and 2012 federal returns, e-filed 1/27.
  19. I get a federal refund of $35.00 single, no dependents 1040A AGI 69030 standard deduction 6100 personal exemption 3900 taxable income 59030 tax 10685 w/h 10720 refund 35
  20. Found the answer to my question on the ATX Community Board - ".....because we pursued the MeF implementation of 94x this year, it's a lot closer to filing any other business or 1040 return. The 10-digit "LOI" pin is no more, and instead you can self-select one (or continue to use the Reporting Agent, IRS-assigned 5-digit PIN, if you so choose)." Thanks! ATXJosh
  21. Prior quarters (2012 and 2013) the 941/940 efile PIN was a 10-digit number. For the 4th Quarter 2013 the worksheet is asking for a 5-DIGIT PIN. When did the IRS change that? Or is that a program glitch?
  22. Last I heard the 940/941 efile would be available on or around 1/26.
  23. Use form 8594, Asset Acquisition Statement, via which both the seller and the buyer report the assets sold and purchased. It will walk you through the various categories of assets; anything left over after itemizing the tangibles is goodwill.
  24. Cross posting re MA Unemployment New client - moved to LA from MA in June 2011. In reviewing their 2011 self-prepared federal, MA, and LA tax returns (in preparation for amending - omitted W2), it appears the taxpayers did not report on their MA return the MA unemployment received. My review of the MA DOR website leads me to conclude that unemployment IS TAXABLE to MA. I have added MA Form CA-6 to the return, as amended. It appears that the 'amended' MA return is just like a 'new' return; I do not see a box to check to state it is amended, other than including the form CA-6. Please confirm, or correct my understanding, and if I am missing something. . Thank you, Lynn
