LA Preparers - Education Credits
Lynn EA USTCP in Louisiana replied to Cathy's topic in General Chat
I have not tested this yet. Did you email Barbara Reeves at LDR about this. I knew the $25 is now reduced to $18 but was unaware of the issue you posed. I copied your query to a colleague who attended the LDR practitioner liaison meeting last November and will forward her response. Lynn -
I use ATX for this.

Last Year's Comparison Tool
Lynn EA USTCP in Louisiana replied to Chowdahead's topic in General Chat
Open a 1040, then click on 'add form'. In the search bar type 'comparison'. That's where you find and add the comparison form. This works also on entity type returns. Lynn -
I renewed last year too. Those who received their cards or a letter got more than I did - IRS supposedly mailed my renewal card three times (that's their limit) none of which were received by me. I'll try sending them an email to request a replacement card. Thanks for that info.

Driver License on Input Sheet
Lynn EA USTCP in Louisiana replied to ADGFINANCIAL's topic in General Chat
Yes, there is that in ATX along with a description as to why they are suggesting we ask for that information. When the 1040 is open, click on the tab at the bottom of the page for 'filers information'. There is a section, now above the telephone numbers input, to add the ID info for taxpayer and spouse - either drivers license or state issued ID. -
I purchased Tax Help Software for this purpose and receive all the items I need in minutes, presuming the POA has posted to the CAF unit, and in readable condition. The reports stay in the THS system if I need to print them again. Lynn

Mine arrived yesterday. In addition to the folder with the program disk the package also included 2016 CCH US Master Tax Guide. The book was placed on the shelf, and the program added to my 'to do' list. Lynn

I do the same as JMovichEA.

Aaron and I both served as state EA affiliate officers at the same time. I met him in DC at NAEA Affiliates Presidents Exchange Meetings. He is very personable, very knowledgeable, but no, I have not taken his classes. Lynn

A one-time only house 'flip' - in this situation I'd also utilize Schedule D.

Have you considered filing MFS to separate the husbamd's income and assets from the wife's? Are you in a community property state, which might complicate this tactic?

Cash for Keys - is it part of the transaction?
Lynn EA USTCP in Louisiana replied to BulldogTom's topic in General Chat
Tom, it is in the section where the POA enters his/her name and address. -
Cash for Keys - is it part of the transaction?
Lynn EA USTCP in Louisiana replied to BulldogTom's topic in General Chat
When ATX pulls in the 2848 the box is NOT checked for 'send copies of correspondence to representative'. I remember it every time, but sometimes do not notice the box is not checked until after the POA has been faxed to the CAF unit. -

I'd send the 9626 requesting the NOD be rescinded. -
client won and immediately sold boat at loss
Lynn EA USTCP in Louisiana replied to schirallicpa's topic in General Chat
There have been cases in the not so recent past wherein the taxpayer prevailed in reporting the value shown on the 1099-Misc, then on line 21 reducing that amount to what he was able to sell the property (in one case, a car) for, so that the FMV reflected the amount that a willing third party would pay for the property. Wait and try again later or another day

Randall, I have one client for whom I calculate their annual RMD, based on the total of all their IRA accounts. The RMD is taken each year from one IRA account that has the least growth. This client has never had any correspondence from the IRS regarding how their RMD's are taken. Lynn

It should be included as W2 wages, with all the pertinent withholdings. 1099-MISC treatment is (and always has been) incorrect.

Lynn EA USTCP in Louisiana replied to Catherine's topic in General Chat
I received two of these, I think, in the last several weeks. I viewed them as spam though I did respond suggesting his clients contact me directly. Never heard any more ..... Lynn
