  1. Re Tax Court - tax court practitioners are mandated to electronically file their petitions. Only pro se taxpayers may submit a paper / snail mailed petition.
  2. If the client were at my desk, I would hand the phone to the client so that he would give the IRS personnel permission to talk with me - no POA required at that time.
  3. I am working on 1099-MISC in ATX Payroll. Both the recipients and the employers copies print with all but the last 4 digits of the recipients' SSN masked. I have searched through the preferences and Admin sections and do not find a toggle switch to turn that off. Has anyone else seen this, and been able to 'unmask' the SSN? Thanks, Lynn
  4. IMO at the income level he is expected to earn via the LLC he should leave well enough alone. Gifting the spouse 6% stock renders the default partnership, with the need for filing a 1065. If he elects corporate status the tax rate on net income is 21%, not 15%, with the need for payroll and its accompanying reports, and filing an 1120, complexity which he would more than likely not appreciate. If he leaves it as a SMLLC then the default filing is a schedule C as part of his 1040 package. If his other earned income is near the FICA limit then his medicare liability will not be much (under $900). Just my $0.02, whatever that is worth. Lynn
  5. thr latest I heard was via a FB post by Karen Hawkins that Roni Deutch has been disbarred.
  6. No, Tom, I think they are talking about the pending changes to the withholding tables.
  7. Schedule A deductions subject to the 2% floor are gone. All employees are urged to negotiate with their employers for a salary reduction combined with accountable plan reimbursements
  8. Deduction of meals for the convenience of the employer was not totally repealed but changed from its former 100% deduction to a 50% deduction as of 1/1/18.
  9. See qualifying relative rules, instead of qualifying child rules
  10. Yep. Me too. Luckily my fax is set up with an email so I set up my eservices with the fax's email. That was easier than setting up a new one or resurrecting my deceased mother's email (which has never been closed).
  11. Joan my experience was similar and after over 2 hours and 3'IRS personnel the inky solution was for me to use a different email address. I was not pleased
  12. See if this works, from Facebook,
  13. There is a newer similar one, dated 12/20/17.
  14. Cch put,out a nice analysis today.
  15. Not,yet.,I was waiting for,the bill to be signed into law
  16. Compass is having a one-hour CE on Bitcoin Monday - presenter is Tom Gorczynski, EA, USTCP. https://www.compasstaxeducators.com/ $39.00.
  17. I was told by e services help desk to use internet explorer or edge. Chrome maybe . Not Firefox nor safari.
  18. I found the answer - it is a form of research, for 1040 forms only, included in the Max package. There was a similar thread on this very question (I think) in 2014, started by Naveen Mohan.
  19. Who can provide the comparison between ATX MAX and ATX Tax Prep Partner 1040 Lite. I had never heard of the second, but it shows up in my download with reg. codes. I don't want to download it until I know what it is and how it compares to Max. Thanks, Lynn
  20. I do the EFTPS for only a handful of clients, including my own. IMO it does not take that much time to log into each individual EFTPS account.
  21. Boats have hour meters. The client should have kept a usage log, with details of the paid trips versus nonpaid personal trips, including hours for each
  22. There's a special page you have to click on and tell ATX to calculate the interest and penalty. You have to enter the date the return is being filed and the date the tax will be paid.
  23. SaraEA the Tax Pro link on the so-called 'new and improved IRS website is supposed to be upper right.
  24. Bulldog Tom, SSN ending in 7, 8 or 9 renew now through 1/31/18.
  25. I did receive that email Catherine, clicked on the link (it took me to where it was supposed to), I completed the 8554, paid my $30 and my EA enrollment is now current. Now to await my new card; I did not receive a card after the last renewal cycle and I have been an EA since 1989
