Inherited Property versus Changing Title prior to Death

.....Can't we all just get along? -
...A local goodwill store here is telling people that "your tax person will tell you what it is worth".....JEESH!!

....She is INSANE!!!.....Client is upset because instead of a big refund like her friend got, she is going to owe. She tells me that since she works at the same place as her friend and they do the same job, their refunds should be the same. I point out the obvious flaws in her reasoning and re-assure her that, despite the unfavorable outcome, her taxes have been prepared correctly...and that if she wants to avoid owing next year, "do not withdrawal money from your 401k to pay for your trip to Florida to see the NASCAR race." ....So client calls back today (after speaking with her friend on complicated income tax issues) and informs me that she will stop in to pay me and pick up her copies, but will NOT sign the 8879 because she does not want me to file them. She will take them to the guy that did her friend's taxes "cuz he can file me as Head of Household" so I will get a big refund. ...again, I point out the flaws in her argument and inquire as to why she thinks she qualifies for this status....Since she has no dependents or children living with her...just three dogs, a fish, and two cats. She tells me that "Since I am the head of my household, I obviously qualify to file for it". I give up

Inherited Property versus Changing Title prior to Death

....Not so fast!....You need a special permit to grow frickin bananas.....and yes...it is called a frickin permit. -
....my pants are too big so I bought a new belt that is brown/black reversable...It is very cool...I now bask in your envy.

Wondering the exact same thing here.....Surely these "normal" filers will not have to file again on some special form just to be considered for the rebate.
-
WOW...a simple "Wrong" would have been sufficient...now you have wasted a bunch of capital letters. They never re-financed....original loan amount was $73,000

Please review the facts below and let me know if you agree. Client received 1099-A Box 1: Date of aquisition 03/21/07 Box 2: Balance of Principal Outstanding $65,493.32 Box 4: Fair Market Value of Property $46,000.00 Box 5: Yes...Borrower Personally liable for debt It looks to me like client has a loss of $19,493.32....Since primary residence, no loss can be taken. I will tell client to expect a 1099-C for debt forgiven. We will use this on tax return next year. Due to recent legislation (Form 982), this debt will NOT be taxable, correct?

Form 2848 Required for E-filed Return Signed by POA?
Janitor Bob replied to MJG CPA's topic in General Chat
If a taxpayer is filing as a surviving spouse (wife died in 2007), does he check one of these boxes for personal representative or POA.....or just leave them blank. Who signs the 8879 for the deceased spouse and how? -
FYI....I personally have received 4 1099-Cs so far this year for debt forgave in 2007
-
FYI....Tonight is fish stick night.....I LOVE fish sticks.....That Gortons fisherman rocks!

I quit (10 years ago) before I even started when I realized that the pay was based (at least partially) on volume, as opposed to quality. Sorry...but instead of doing 3 returns at 15 minutes each, I would rather do 1 return in 45 and know it was done correctly.

Wow...I just assumed they reciprocated up to their rate of 1.75%....that's rough...only reciprocating 50% up to 1%?!
-
Possibly...but a few years ago..when they asked permission to use the favorable comment in CPA magazine, I re-worded their permission to state that they could use it ONLY in CPA magazine and ONLY in the exact form in which I submitted it. This time, they want blanket permission to use it ANYWHERE ....and to be able to change it "both in form and/or meaning" as they see fit. ....I just sent them a copy/paste of the automated e-mail I received from Tech support...promising to respond in 48-72 hours. If Tech support ever responds to me, I will respond to sales.

Does not sound right....Sounds like the OH37 is not taking into consideration the $1600 paid in city tax. Shaker Heights tax rate is 1.75%, so if $80,000 income, should only pay $1,400 in city taxes. make sure the amounts from the W-2 (especially local taxes withheld) is flowing everywhere it should on the 37.

You cannot claim the loss on personal residence and certain amounts of gain (if they existed) could be excluded in same fashion as ordinary home sale.

Thanks to all....this is one of those things i know, but over-think and confuse myself....I had the return all done (with dependency exemption and HOH) then started to re-think and question myself....I need more coffee and/or more sleep.
