No Problem...We are all in this together

My client is 22 and has a girlfriend. Girlfriend (age 19) has no income for 2008 and lived with boyfriend all year in his apartment. Their relationship is not in violation of local laws. Girlfriend is not on unemplyment and received all of her support from boyfriend. It appears that he can claim her as a dependent as a qualifying relative

Sorry...I wanted my 500th post to be a real one....I announced in E-file section that I had received my Ohio ACKs
-
Yeah!!!! I received all of my Ohio ACKs!!!!
-
Why do you think I've been frikkin posting so much today!

Holy Crap! When did they start making Frikkin Banana Schnapps?! The last I knew, they had not perfected the process because they only had regular banana presses...and a viable frikkin banana press had yet to be manufactured.
-
hmmmm...good point...No I have not....but I suppose it is possible...
-
THAT would be frikkin awesome!....but only if frikkin bananas are used, of course! Otherwise, it would just be awesome

I would not expect a 1099-C (Cancellation of debt) until this time next year (the amount of debt settled depends on what the bank can sell it for...and that may not happen for many months). ....But I am also confused by that interest amount on the 1098....could that be lifetime interest instead of just 2008? ...Please post if you figure it out.

On each return (Massilon & North Canton)...are you only entering the income earned while in that city? If you have taxable income and income tax withheld on that income at the rate for that city, then there should be no refund and only an amount due if the tax withheld was withheld at less than the rate for that city. If you are still hung up, you can always scan and e-mail me a copy of the W-2's in question and the dates she moved into/out of each city...I'd be happy to work on the city forms and e-mail them to you. My e-mail is [email protected] that is top secret, so kill anybody who reads it

If client receives refund...obviously there is no problem....but if I NEVER receive OH ACKs, how do I know if one or more get rejected....wait until the client calls in a few weeks....then possibly find out that the OH return was never received/accepted by Ohio? I need those ACKs to know that all were accepted OK by OH

Remember that horse drawn wagon from the old Gravy Train commercials? In my version of MAX, whenever there is a program update available (not forms, just program update), the little wagon comes out from behind my PC....through all of the dust bunnies...does a big circle....runs away from Lila the Giant dog, then goes back behind the computer.....drives the dog crazy, but serves as a good reminder to update!

I still have not....all of them still state "IRS Cleared". ATX was suppose to re-hang....that was yesterday. When I called ATX support...after waiting only 45 minutes....I told the guy my probblem and he asked me..."When did Ohio start acccepting e-files?" Holy Crap, Batman! This harkens back to the days of India support!

Sidney, Ohio 1) The Spot Restaurant (great homemade pies and cheeseburgers 2) The Big Four railroad bridge 3) Crazy Mary and Chaz (the guy who stands on the corner by Woody's Market and drinks warm Corona)

So I just received an automated phone call from H & R Block.....Thanking me for being a client and asking me to complete a survey....I'm sure not a client, but I did complete the survey!
-
Most tax seasons, I visit three sites....this one (ATX Community), irs.gov, and Ohio.gov irs.gov has almost everything, but it can be hard to find some things
-
My cat does it sometimes too...but she eats so little you barely notice....when an 85 pound dog licks something, you know it!
-
I made myself a delicious Totinos pepperoni pizza...took it out of oven and put it on top of the stove....door bell rings....client. After talking for a few, I return to my pizza. Lila the Giant Dog has licked off every last bit of pepperoni and cheese and most of the sauce. Oh well...oven is still hot...in goes another one

Here in Sidney, you cannot even pay utility bills or fines/fees on-line...and they have been working on that for at least two years.
-
That wold be great...But I know many cities in this area well (having served 4 years on city council)...and all of them are at best 3-4 years away from offering on-line or electronic filing. I actually look for more and more cities to joing regional groups like RITA to reduce costs in their departments.
-
If you click on E-file center at the top of the ATX Community page, then down on the left hand side there are links..including one to the IRS Refund Cycle Chart

I had a beer at Christmas called "Naughty Elf"....a very dark beer....half of a bottle made me a little woozy.
-
Yes...Lila the giant dog (lab-doberman mix) loves to greet clients and scare away bad people....so I can use her vet and food expenses as a business expense right? After all, my auto mechanic said I could!
-
I intevierw BF last night....when he shows up un-announced at 11:15pm.....H states that GF and baby lived with him from Feb 5, 2008-current and that GF parents are aware that he is taking them as dependents.....Nott sure if I believe him, but what else can I do? Looks like he really will get to claim them.....does Due diligence require me to "investigate" further?

On the Massilon return, make sure you enter the "Moved into Massilon" info. List her employers and the name of the city where employed (i.e. North Canton) and list the taxes that were withheld for North Canton and taxes withheld for Massilon, then list total w-2 local wages. Line 1 (Wages and salaries) should include all of her local wages from her W-2s Line 2 is probably blank Line 3 would list the amount of her total wages that were earned PRIOR to her moving into Massilon (i.e. divide total wages by 12 months then multiply by number of months she lived in Massilon) Line 4 is probably blank Line 5 is total of Line 1 minus Line 3 Line 6 is 1.8% of Line 5 Line 7a would be any taxes withheld for Massilon (zero per your post) Line 7b would be that amount she paid in taxes to other cities (i.e. North Canton)...but only up to 1.8% of Line 5 Line 7c is probably zero Line 7 is total of 7 a,b,c If she had at least 1.8% withheld in taxes for other cities, then this return will be a wash with no refund and no amount due. If other cities such as North Canton withheld less then 1.8% then she will owe Massilon the difference between 1.8% of line 5 and the amount withheld on line 7b. Make sure you note on the North Canton return that she moved out in November.....Next year at this time, she should only be filing a Massilon return (assuming she does not move again). Since Massilon allows credit for taxes paid to other cities (ip to 1.8%), as long as she is paying at least 1.8% to ANY city, she will not owe anything....but if she has more than 1.8% withheld she will not get a refund.
