  1. I've been re-hung by ATX many times this year already...It hurt a little the first few times, but now I don't feel a thing.
  2. Hell...here in Ohio, I staple them prior to e-filing so they get stuck in their computers.
  3. When I installed this latest version, I little old man in a baker outfit popped out from behind my computer....he ran up to me...shouted "Everyone loves cake!"....he then took a tiny spatula and smeared my face with coconut icing...then ran back behind the computer. ATX...not sure about this newest release.....the icing was yummy, but the entire situation was very unsettling.....and it kinda scared Lila the giant dog
  4. Welcome Back!!
  5. This is exactly what I did....I discussed with her the hobby vs. business aspect....I informed her that similar losses next year may raise a red flag and that I would have strong reservations in classifying it as a business...we'll see
  6. I do the same thing here....Repeat clients drop off and pick up when done and sign forms and pay....I only seee most for 10-15 minutes. New clients still get the old interview. ...and I am happy to see that it is not only my clients that drop off envelopes...never opened....aren't they the least bit curious?.....One actually gave me an unopened Time Warner cable bill....I hope she was not under the impression that I was going to pay that!
  7. I'm still puzzled by the "moms a pickle" comment
  8. Door bell rings at 7:30am...I'm still shaving and not really awake....I wipe my face off, put on my shirt and go to the door. There is a kid standing there (child of a client)....mom decided to stay in car apparently. "Hi there", I say....what can I do for you? "I gots boogers!" he states very proudly...."wanna see?" "No, Thanks" I say...."Do you have something for me?" I ask (seeing the 8879 and check in his little hand) "Yep...here...moms a pickle!"...and he runs back to the car I wave to mom and head back inside with my check and signed 8879.....but I cannot seperate the two,,,,because they are stuck together by.....Yep...he gots boogers!
  9. two of my clients (each previously filed HOH with one dependent)...all was good....but then in early 2008, they moved in together in her house....Now, of course, they both expected to file HOH as in the past......Am I correct that there can only be one HOH for any given address? Both incomes are similar, but since she owns the home, I'm thinking the HOH would go to her and he would get Single....correct? Its gonna cost him $1,221....So I want to be sure I'm thinking straight here.
  10. I just tried it again and a little Spanish guy in a matadore outfit ran out from behind my PC and kicked me in the nuts....Thanks IRS!
  11. It is total BS.....I have four returns that are waiting on this information....and their "feature" is down more than it is up.
  12. Client studied, took exam, and received her realtor's license in early 2008.....She has a lot of expenses for 2008 (vehicle, business use of home, office expenses, etc), but no income...as she did not sell any houses in 2008. Her expenses and thus her Schedule C loss do not appear to be limited...as she has other income from a W-2 job that is much more than the Sch C loss......but is there any limit to what I should claim as a loss for 2008? Is there a way to amortize these start-up expenses over a few years? I am concerned that if not, she may face years with high income and not as much in expenses. Thanks in advance for your wonderful assistance...everyone who helps me gets a gold star beside their name!
  13. I also received the mass e-mails....ATX....if you're gonna send me something, make it an extra cheese & pepperoni pizza...not a bunch of junk e-mails!
  14. OK...maybe not as important as other issues...but this is annoying me. Every time I have a return with an Ohio School District return (OH SD-100)....ATX adds payment voucher SD-40P upon error check.....even when there is a refund.
  15. I sign all of mine as paid preparer, but only actually charge for 75% of them...the others pay in casseroles, pies, or a thank you.
  16. SWEET....Here I was gettin all worked up for nothing!.....and you don't wanna get me all worked up.....Its a frikkin mess!
  17. If you are filing electronically, I would think that there would be some point (either before or after acceptance of the e-file) where the W-2 information from the return you sent (with corrected SSN) does not match what the IRS has (what employer entered and sent to IRS on copy A of the W-2). I would think this would cause problem....just not sure when in the process it would become an issue.
  18. Thanks Jainen....This confirms my initial assesment. Not much I can do to defend her....She took the loan and used the proceeds for various things (pay bills, etc)....then decided to default without concern for the tax consequences. Here is the kicker.....Had she not defaulted (maybe borrowed from bank or relative to make payments), she would have qualified for EIC this year and her refund would have been over $3,500.00.....Now, the $18,000 puts her out of EIC and she owes $3,400!!
  19. I have noticed that printing is much slower than last year....and I have changed nothing since then....curious
  20. I think I know the answer to this is "no", but wanted to make sure I was not missing something.....Client took a loan from their 401k last year ($18,000). later last year, they lost their job and could not afford to make the loan payments.....1099-R with $18,000.00 taxable (code 1L). Is there any exception that could be used on the 5329 to avoid the additional 10%? None of the listed exceptions seemed to apply....No exceptions for hardship...i.e. job loss?
  21. Reading this jogged my memory as well...been meaning to do this (as well as customize the Client Letter)...but have not had time
  22. I have ATX Max installed on home computer, laptop, and office computer for my three installs. I purchased a new computer as a replacement for my home computer. Can I install ATX on it? It would be the 4th install....but I am no longer using the home computer...which was install # 1....anybody else experience this situation? I sure would not think I would need to pay again?!
  23. I had pink-eye once...hurt like hell
  24. Yes...but something just does not seem right....How far am I obligated to dig?
