Please Help! Filing an Amended Form for $250 Credit
MAMalody replied to RetiredTeacher's topic in General Chat
If you are actually referring to the Economic Recovery payment through SSA, you probably already received it an it was handled on your Schedule M. You might check that schedule out on your tax return. -
Oops. Can't use a Schedule C because there is no unused housing allowance. Additional info is that the allowance is $8100 with about $7400 of unreimbursed EBE so only $675 or so is available for SE purposes. How about, I include the $8100 on line 7 and back it out on line 21 and then go ahead and use the 1040 Clergy worksheet for the IRC 265 limitation computation and transfer the balance to the SE like you are supposed to? What do you think?

I am getting a reject on a clergy tax return for e-filing. They don't have any apparent earned income, bu they do have a housing allowance. Because of that there is an entry on the SE, but no W-2, no Sch C, no Other Income, no 1099, no Schedule F, no Schedule E, just the 1040 Clergy Worksheet. How do I get this thing through? All I can think of is to convert the info to Sch C, but that stinks because it is incorrect. Anyway, ideas?

Thank you. That was about the only schedule I did not check. I probably would not have recognized it anyway. Thanks again. Mike

I have a client from IN and understand that in IN there is a deduction/adjustment if you are making contributions to a 529 plan. I can't seem to find any info on this. Can you tell me how to do this, confirm it or direct me to a source. I am having trouble on the IN website. Hopefully, it will clear up and I can find this out.

I have a MN client that seems to qualify for the property tax refund, per the instructions. When I fill out the MN 1PR, the ATX program says no problem, I file it and it gets rejected. I have filed this every way that I can think of to no avail. I know you don't expect this, buty I have even read the instructions for the form and it is still rejected. This is a homeowner, not mobile home, with no business use or rental use. The reject reads as follows: 1040mn150 Form M1PR Occurrence:0 Seq:0 On Form M1PR, line 11 requires form PROPST. If filing as mobile home owner, file either PROPST or CRP (or both). On Form M1PR, line 11 must equal the sum of line 1 for all property tax statements. If part of the home is rented or used for busines, Line 11 must equal step 3 of the Worksheet 2. Mobile home owners must include amount from of the Worksheet1. The last line is exactly as the reject info reads. I did not leave anything out. What am I doing wrong? I hope this can be solved via message board. Last year I never figured it out and had the client file a paper return that was accepted with no problem. ATX has no clue, I have tried them.

Church meetings....donated time...rent for building
MAMalody replied to Denne's topic in General Chat
I think you have some real issues here. I interpret your posting to say that he did not actually receive any rent, he just repoted rent as income and then deducted the appropriate expenses. I would shy away from the type of tax return or prepare the year in questions as it should be. In my opinion, if he did not actually receive rent, the rental expenses could be listed as contributions but not as rental expenses because no rental actually existed. It is also questionable whether those monies he received in 2009 were rental expenses or simply reimbursements to help defray costs as a matter appreciation - but that is no issued concerned to the other question. If I have misread this, then I am all wet and please throw me a towel. -
Wow! Look at all the good answers above. I wish that when I started doing clergy returns that you folks had been there to help me out...would have been a lot easier and a lot less stuff to unlearn, if you know what I mean. The only additional comment I might make about clergy in general, not this instant case, is that the housing allowance is not required to be listed on the W-2 at all. It is always good to ask any clergy or religious worker if they have a housing allowance. I came across six or eight every year that don't think to mention it in their tax organzier and it is not on their W-2. As a point of interest about 1/2 the returns I do, the housing amount is not on the W-2.

Why didn't I think of that? Thanks, I appreciate it.

Has anybody had trouble with rfunds? I have a return that was accepted 3 March. The refund cycle chart calls for a direct deposit 12 March. Client checked IRS refund feature and it called for a refund 16 March and they just checked today, no refund, so they checked IRS again and was told 30 March. What gives?

I have oil royalties and need to take some depletion and for the life of me, I can't figure how to do it in ATX. It doesn't seem to be through Asset Entry. Anybody else had this this year or know how to do it? Thanks.

Count me in on this prayer chain.

Oops. I didn't notice that you were talking about prepaid premiums. Sorry.
-
Mortgage insurance premiums are treated as deductible mortgage interest. The premium may be deductible, in full, for the year of acquisition. The deduction is phased out ratably by 10% for each $1,000 (or fraction thereof) by which the taxpayer’s AGI exceeds $100,000 ($500 and $50,000 respectively for MFS). The deduction is not allowed when AGI exceeds $109,000 ($54,000 MFS). The mortgage insurance must be in connection with home acquisition debt, and the insurance contract must have been issued after December 31, 2006.

I like the bike. Can't quite tell what it is from the picture. Model/specs?

You are right. It is a spread sheet (still somewhat under development) that does all that the ATX Clergy Worksheets 1-4 do along with gathering the clergy professional expenses for Form 2106. I prefer to load it with each individual's tax return because I can link all the fields necessary to their ultimate destination. Right now I have to keep the worksheet with their computer file and then transfer the the necessary totals to the tax return software. I am basically lazy, I guess.
-
Thanks. I will have to wait I guess. The worksheet I want to import I used on every return I filed last year (well all but three).
-
I am still unable to import an excel spreadsheet as a master form. Can somebody give the me the KB directions or directions for this. I believe that I am doing it all okay, but, I must be missing something.
-
I can't find it know (don't you know), however, I read that it is NOT included on the 1099-SSA.
-
Is anybody else not able to add an excel spreadsheet to your forms? I am still unable to do so. I am told to wait for the next update and I have the most current update. Somebody indicated the other day that they are able to add forms. I am using the procedure as follows: Forms Custom Master Forms Customize Add Excel Sheet as Master Form Message reads: This feature will be available in a future release. Try again after receiving program updates.

Does anybody know when we are going to be able to import Excel worksheets, etc?
-
Duh, why didn't I think of that. Thanks.
