  1. Same problem and same results.
  2. Thanks. I have not had any AR clergy yet this year. I will keep this in mind. I assume you have contact ATX about this...so if I am lucky when I get AR returns it will be fixed.
  3. When I had these type situations last year, the normal e-file procedure transmitted the correct information and forms. Therefore, unless there were certain paper docs that were required I filed them all electronically with no problems.
  4. I agree. It clearly qualifies as a contribution.
  5. After updating, my computer still tells me that the Schedule A is a problem. Also, does anybody know when the 1040 Clergy worksheets are due to be approved for filing? 95% of my returns require this.
  6. I have a file on my hard drive titled Client Information. Under that are active clients by name. Under the name are a file with the name year, SSN and 4361. Under year are three files, Income Tax Return, Other and Work Papers. I also have a file for inactive clients in which I place all files by name which have not return for whatever reason.
  7. Jeez, I don't know. You still don't have the ES form available.
  8. I would agree with chadlonetree on his conclusion. I find in rarely in my practice that the church constitution and by-laws actually require it.
  9. In my experience, the clergy that are usually considered to be employees of churches are their pastors and as such receive W-2s. Typically, someone who fills in the pulpit is not normally considered one of the church pastors and receives a 1099 not a W-2. They can be employees if the church hires that way, however, it is not normal. This preacher may need to simply be handled as self-employed with his home church as his tax home, or it could be that he needs to be handled as an intinerate preacher (the same as a truck driver with no tax home). It would, of course, depend on the facts and circumstances of his particular situation. I don't actually think we have enough information to make a determination here.
  10. Why, when I go to create an electronic file the program tells me the F1040 is not an approved form. I closed client, went back to Return Mgr and made sure the I had updated forms and program and the program told me that I had. This problem is true for a number of clients. I have not yet filed an electronic return so this condition has been here all along (I believe).
  11. I would be interested if the $900 from his home congregation was because he was their pastor or only preached a couple of times for them when the pastor was gone.
  12. I think KC has a good idea. As a prior IRS auditor it always made more sense to me to accept a F4852 when it could be demonstrated that the employer failed to provide or correct a W-2.
  13. Why not just google it? I did and found a number of fee schedules.
  14. Thanks for the info. That's how I was leaning, but I can't prepare a return by "leaning." Thanks again.
  15. I know that you can reimburse qualified medical expenses from your HSA account and it is considered an appropriate distribution. I am unable to find any guidance on a prior year bill. For example, a client receives a qualified medical bill in June 2010, pays it in July of 2010 and waits until February 2011 for reimbursement because there was not enough money, as long as there is no medical expense claimed for those 2010 expenditures, are the 2011 HSA distributions still considered qualified?
  16. mlinder42, did that move also include the operating system? I have always been told you cannot move programs between programs because of the configuration necessary and some registry issues.
  17. I would be interested in seeing the form that the class would have you file. I have composed my own from the IRS Notice and would like to see what someone else things. If you can't post it here, send it to me at [email protected]. Thanks.

    PTIN

My check was cashed and the site lists me correctly. I called and asked for a letter (twice) and have not received on yet.
  19. This year I am going to a fill-in .pdf Tax Organizer. I think it will be better than the .doc once I was using. I always seem to need to conver a few to .pdf anyway because they either didn't have Word or had the wrong version or who knows. We will see.
  20. Documents that are sent via the Internet are normally scanned in and sent as an attachement to an e-mail. To my knowledge none has ever been intercepted. The Tax Organizer is sent via an e-mail attachment (it is sent as a word doc that they can fill out on their computer. Additional information or questions are answered via e-mail. Out of curiosity, I would be interested if anybody has personal experience that some document has been intercepted. Technically, that is a concern of mine, however, I don't know if it is in the real world.
  21. Well, in my case, I am a niche specialist. I only do clergy and religious workers tax returns. So I have a web site (currently being revised), and specialized segment marketing. In my case, denominational publications, etc. Of course, word-of-mouth is best. All of these indicate an e-mail address for contact. When I am contacted via e-mail, that is how I respond with a return e-mail specifying how I do returns. To be honest, if they don't want to do it over the internet, fax or mail, I refer them to someone else. I send out a privacy notice, engagement letter and tax organzier via e-mail. At the first I received most of my info 50% over the internet and 30% mail and 20% fax. Today I receive about 85% over the internet, 10% fax and 5% mail. Of course, the tax returns are sent out password protected and the returns are e-filed. I picked up 38 new clients last year with this basic method. Also, last year I put on another preparer because of the need. She does not have a full load yet, but that should change over the next few years. I have found that those under 40 or 45 seem to participate more readily in this method that those over 50. I can't speak for others but it works for me.
  22. In my case I update all federal and state forms. My business is 100% Internet based and last year included 21 states and three out of the country. I would rather be up-to-date on all forms and not have to worry about it.
  23. Merry Christmas!! May we all understand and embrace the true reason for the season. Save traveling all.
  24. Happy Birthday!!
