Where to input Student loan Interest for deduction
Pacun replied to AMCtaxassoc's topic in General Chat
sch 2, I think. -
I used to check the employees whose 1099 I needed to print but now I have to print them all. Is that correct?

It is excellent that it stopped me. Now I know about that "day care" credit up to 1K refundable for expenses on a child under 4 BUT you must pay to specific organizations. I just removed the ELC form and I am able to create the file.

DC now has standard deduction exactly as Fed (18K for HH, 12K for S, and 2400 for FJ). DC also now has ELC which is not allowing me to create efile files if a child under 4 years old is on the return. If a child is at home with their parents, do you know what I should enter and where? I have looked for d-40 instructions and they only have for 2017 on the DC website.

Without entering into immigration practice, having a visa doesn't preclude you from applying to other benefits that carry a Social security at the end. Most clients know their situation and if they feel that the social security number is coming, it might be wise to ask them to wait. Also if the SS card comes and the W-2 has another number, you have to paper file, which is interesting that ITIN holders can efile regardless what SS number is entered on the W-2.

Security will be an appealing reason to upgrade.

You should contact the tech who set up the Citrix environment since you keep saying "workstations servers". The tech should verify that there is not a check mark on "allow only one instance of application per user"

According to the IRS, in 2017, 53,395,000 were efiled by individuals, since Turbo tax is the leader, I will say AT LEAST 35 million returns were efiled using turbo tax. So technically we lost 35 millions tax payers to Turbo tax and let's be generous and say that we corrected 1 million returns for the people that got letters, do the math and tell me if Turbo tax is not a threat.

Not so fast... I like the answer "Who's yo daddy?". Let's not assume and ask our clients. One time I had a similar situation... a client told me: "my girlfriend moved to my house with her two children and I pay more than half to upkeep the house". After a few questions a couple of questions I said "You do qualify for HOH". When I asked "who was the father of the children?" he replied... "my brother".

I agree with the original posting and a few years ago, I said that if Turbo Tax would come with a pricing method that will allow users to buy only what they need, they will drive a lot of preparers out of business. Now people will only itemized if they have documents from the mortgage companies and letter from the church, they will not need us anymore. Someone said that they sell customer services not tax returns... well if you have a market of 100 million tax payers, then no problem, but if that market shrinks to about 20millions and a lot of preparers are "selling services", you do the math. Time is changing and changing quickly. Between HR Block, Turbo tax, and other factors, our market is dissipating and whoever thinks otherwise... you will be thinking similar to what companies thought of Amazon. When Amazon started, most business said, "we don't sell goods, we sell customer services and human interaction"... today they are out of business.

You want Windows AND ATX updates as soon as they become available. Fire up your computer as soon as you can, open ATX, get a cup of coffee, do some filing, talk to your customer and let ATX do the updates.

I always wonder why preparers want that checked. That means ONLY that the IRS will call you with questions, which might be easier for the IRS to pick up the phone versus a formal audit. Maybe it is just me, but I do not want to get calls from the IRS because I will think they are scammers. I prefer a letter to my client and then I ask them to sign a power of attorney.

with the new regulations, he will only benefit about $200 if he makes 14K in 2019, if ANY. He will need to marry that lady and then he will benefit. The year is young, why don't you suggest your client to send her to work and make 15K, which is not hard to do and then he will have no motivations to claim any one.

Sorry... it is a corporation filing 1120

Yes... that's it. Where do I get it?

Have you efiled 941s quarterly using the payroll ATX software? I have noticed that you cannot duplicate 941 forms for 2018, so what do you do, keep printed copies? I was hoping to have 941 FQ, 941 SQ, 941 TQ, and 941 FQ but I am not able to keep multiple forms. It is also asking me for a 4 letter code given by the IRS but my client doesn't have it. Where can I find that code?
-
I wouldn't call the number on the letter. I would my client to call 1-800-tax1040 and ask about their account or any letters sent to them.

Get back to work because someone hit the mega millions and ain't you. I will do the same.

I follow the same principle and I buy tickets constantly. I have always known the outcome and I have not been proven wrong. OUTCOME= I lose my investments.

I don't mind about my refund but it was nice to go on line and renew my PTIN without paying anything.

I love when clients wait until the extension deadline to give you crucial info. Moderator note - this topic contains the posts related to timely filing of e-filed returns that were originally all posted in another topic that had significantly derailed from its original subject.

Client purchased a warehouse in Chantilly, VA and I wonder how much to allocate for LAND. It is a warehouse with two outside parking spots and a loading dock. Is 35% for land too much? Where can I find such information? I have seen that tax bill and they didn't break it up.

It is my understanding that you have to use the same method for all your vehicles.

After considering, your client was the owner of the house and therefore able to deduct.
