  1. I have duplicates of payers such as DC Gov, DC Government, Government of DC, Government of the District of Columbia, Government of the District of Colombia, and a few other combinations. I would like to hand pick payers and delete them. Where do I do that?
  2. If you believe it is Edge's settings set up to too strict, then you can relax them or change your default browser to Chrome. How about windows firewall, can you check the settings on the laptop?
  3. Are you logged on? Maybe you are just browsing as a visitor not as a member.
  4. Lion, I see the label donors on yours: Sorry for the double image.
  5. Eric, All of us benefit from this forum and we should be more thankful to you. I am voting for yearly "donors" pin decorations.
  6. Since we operate on a yearly basis, what do you think about having the donors classification removed and as we donate this year we get it back? I have that designation right now and I have not donated for the last 10 years... don't you think it is unfair to you who donated last year? Maybe a voting mechanism is in order for those in favor to keep it the way it is and for those who agree with and have it removed and added back when the donation button is activated during the year.

    Windows 10

ALL PROGRAMS make changes to the registry but not all of them need to be removed and reinstalled. Before you upgrade, run the pre-upgrade tools and you will see where you will have issues. I was going to pay $199 to have a Windows 10 license for the upgrade. I added another 1K and I got a nice DELL computer that is fast. I don't like to upgrade per se because of other lingering issues. I went to the old computer, backed up all my returns and all other stuff and I installed ATX 2018 on the new one and restored the back up. I will then install ATX 2019 and I should be OK. If people lost their tax return copies for 2017 or before, 1-800-829-1040 or if they are nice clients, I will boot up my windows 7 machine and connect with centronics to my printer.
  8. A few years ago (for a couple of times), there have been similar postings and I have always argued that this market is going away faster than the aging tax preparers. I have said in the past that Turbo tax is a very strong competitor and if you add the IRS free efiling, we are going to be out of business really soon as clients die or stop working. The response I have gotten on this forum has been: "this year I had to amend 3 returns that were prepared in Turbo Tax.... Turbo tax keeps my business busy". Internally, I have laughed because amending 3 returns is nothing is comparison to the millions of people that used Turbo Tax. We normally amend 3 returns of our own every year, don't we? Other.... "incredible" tax preparers said "I provide service and personal care for my clients"... I told then that when Amazon came on board, retailers said that they provided personal care and Amazon was not a threat to them because of the personal touch that was provided to clients with each purchase. YOU know the answer to that. I will add something... My daughter is faster on her Iphone than myself on a computer with keyboard, mouse, keypad and huge monitor. Millenniums just click and click and can efile their simple returns while I am still verifying numbers and that the address is correct. Think about this... millenniums don't like to to wait on line at a restaurant regardless of how good the food is and what makes you think they will be willing to wait for this old man to prepare their taxes? It is like me hiring someone to help me and can only type 5 words per minute with two fingers and looking at the keyboard. In any event, I do believe this line of work if fading away and suggesting my clients to have another extra line of work is an EXCELLENT idea and we should do the same.
  9. I would include the IRS form with the paper filing and select "other" reason for not efiling and I would state: NY servers are not ready to accept efiles and they will not ba available for the next 10....15 days.
  10. Most of us are ATXers so I doubt someone will have experience switching from FX to ATX. I pay $1600 and get ATX tax sofware for IRS and all states with unlimited efiles from Jan to Dec. I also get payroll. Since you are new, you will get a better deal... it is called "existing customer appreciation"???
  11. If you want to have a calendar year, file 2017 and establish it.
  12. I guess the FBI didn't think of your suggestion since they had to get a company from Israel to get that phone. If I am not mistaken, the FBI had access to the thumb and yet they had to hire someone to help with the password.
  13. You rent the house from your brother and utilities are included in the rent contract.
  14. One of the main reason Windows 10 Pro is better than Home is the ability of a computer to belong to a domain.
  15. Use bitlocker as encryption and Symantec as antivirus or other features but not encrypting.
  16. A lot of money to be made by amending 2018 returns. Remember that on amended returns, you can charge 50% of the refund or more.
  17. Most likely your computer was So, you think that a tech guy will be able to remove the password from ATX 2018 without you investing over $50K? If they "steal" my phone, they have to also steal my thumb or contract an Israeli company to hack my phone as the FBI did when they had an iPhone without password. Going back to to the original poster. Since you are talking about 2006 taxes, the hard drive, most likely, was not encrypted, you can get the ATX 2006 software from the vendor or your download folder from within that old computer. I would pulled out the hard drive from that XP machine and attached it to a Win7 machine, copy the database folder, install ATX 2006 on the Windows 7 machine and you can print that return. If needed, you might want to run Win7 in XP compatibility mode to install/run 2006 ATX

    Spouse HSA

Husband had a HDHP for all 2019 and his wife was also covered on his plan. He contributed $6K to his HSA through his paycheck and he didn't pay any taxes on those $6K. Can his wife also contribute $6K before the year ends and also save on Social Security taxes the same way her husband did.
  19. Since the building was depreciated to 0, I would sell that building with an adjustment of cost of 165K and you will get the same results. Remember that you have to recapture depreciation allowed or allowable.
  20. Is the distribution taxable or subject to withholding? If yes, yes.
  21. Double your state minimum wage for your area.
  22. "designate one or more employees to coordinate its information security program; identify and assess the risks to customer information in each relevant area of the company’s operation and evaluate the effectiveness of the current safeguards for controlling these risks; design and implement a safeguards program and regularly monitor and test it; select service providers that can maintain appropriate safeguards, make sure the contract requires them to maintain safeguards and oversee their handling of customer information; and evaluate and adjust the program in light of relevant circumstances, including changes in the firm’s business or operations, or the results of security testing and monitoring." I guess I should be OK if I designed myself as the coordinator and I make sure that computer and ATX program can only be accessed with passwords, encrypt my hard drive, have antivirus, use comcast who also has security, and I only transmit returns to ATX server. What do you think?
  23. I think we are talking about the disposition of the asset. If that's the case, we need to recapture depreciation and report it as ordinary income. As you know, you have a building that cost you $100K and sold for $200K and you had taken depreciation for $50K, you have to recapture that depreciation.

    EIC question

Rita and I are in agreement with you. Your second point, while interesting, it might not fly. The document that you present to prove if someone is older than another person is a birth certificate. The birth certificate doesn't have the time of birth, so if twins were born around 11AM, it will be impossible to prove which one is younger. I am sure in court you will be able to bring records from the hospital and then prove that one was older than the other but not during IRS audits.

    EIC question

I made a point that a the second twin to be delivered was the first child of the year to be born in the time zone where he was delivered. So, if that is true, that means that the first twin was born the year before. So in my second instance, I refer to the fact that the first twin (the married one) was born on December 31 and the second on January 1st (since he was the first baby of the year). I understand that the chances of twins been born... one in one year and the other on another year is very isolated but if you considered that twins can be born any day and they can have different birth dates if one is born at 23:58 hours and the second at 00:02 hours. Rita was correct by saying that since the twin brother were of the same age and the dependent was not younger than his wife, then... no EAC.
