  1. Im getting concerned too. Please let the group know what you decide as others including myself are in the same boat. I guesss Mike Dubin jumped ship. Maybe Ill email him.
  2. Taxed, My line 40 on Form 4562 is blank when it should be calculating the depreciation after all info is input.
  3. Taxed, I am seeing the LBL items listed ON form Sch C just below line 1a but no forms labeled as LBL. Weird
  4. Joanne, Thanks but I had zeros in all lines including ending inventory. There error only cleared when I unchecked the "cost" box and had no boxes checked.
  5. Taxed, I am not seeing those forms sarting with "LBL" on either Sch C or Sch A. BTW Im running Windows Vista Home Premium 64Bbit, purchased in late 2008, Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q9550, 4GB RAM, NVidia GeForce 9800GTX graphics card. Wondering if any of these issues could be system related. I hope not.
  6. Taxed, do you think the address fromatting issues is causing the Sch C unknown errors? Hmm thats odd.

    Tax Forums?

    Thanks!
  8. Been playing around with a return and cant seems to clear an error on Sch C. Even though there is no inventory, line 42, ending COGS remains red. Cant seem to find a way to clear this error. If I am not missing something hopefully this will be addressed. EDIT: Well, I found out that I had "Cost" selected and unselecting it clears the red box on line 42. However, I still get 2 error codes for Sch C that when clicked bring me to the "Street Address" (which is filled in) Section E of the form just above the "Accounting Method" and there are no red boxes on the form. Still puzzled about what these two errrors are.

    Tax Forums?

While I like this forum a lot, does anyone know of any other (larger) tax preparer forums? Doesnt have to be software specific since Im using TRXs product this year, and I used TaxWorks the two previous seasons and used ATX since the mid 90s. It's always nice to have a large base of preparers to draw upon when you run into a complex and/or confusing tax prep situation. Thanks
  10. Thank you Kea. I believe I will have my first client with a PIN this season due to someone else filing a return using their SS last year. Very simple MJF return took until November for them to get their refund and an explanation of why it was held up ...sheesh.
  11. Redgear was nice in that it allowed you to rename forms on the tree and it put names on the forms such as the w-2s. Depreciation summarys in Taxexact arent as helpful at the moment.
  12. Taxed, Yes, the Redgear caryyforward statement was very good. I always have the client's previous tax year open for review when doing a return. The first thing I do on a new return is check (or enter) all the information needed form the previous year before entering any of the current year data. Im a bit neurotic about things like this so I do quite a bit of checking. I have known previous tax preparers who never checked this type of information nor did they ever double check the current return to make sure they input data correctly. I have several clients that required amended returns because the previous prepaper never checked the carryforwards from the previous year and the client "thought" something wasnt right. Now they pay me.
  13. I havent found loss carry forwards either from the previous year (2011 rollover) nor the current 2012 tax year to carryforward to 2013.
  14. What is the meeting id for the webinar videos? The site is blank whrer it gives the id on https://trxmembers.com/ Edit, nevermind I got it. For some reason it wasnt showing up in IE9 but worked in Chrome. Must be a setting.
  15. Thanks. Thats where I went and found only two videos. One is on deprecitation which I havent seen. Hopefull more will be uploaded.
  16. Can you please post a link to these?
  17. I really liked TaxWorks the past two years I used it. It was a small learning curve from ATX and somethings it did better than ATX and some not as good, but the price was right and it worked fine. This year is a different story on TaxWorks, ATX and of course TRX With that said I have had a Drake rep hounding me, and they are aware of the problems with the other vendors. Best they will do is 300 / includes 15 returns efiled (fed, state, business, whatever, then $19 per return for any type returns (again all included for this price) With about 100 returns to do I would be better off with the flat fee $1500 version but that will be the most expensive software I have ever purchased. So Im gambling. Trusting Doug's word and promises and hoping I dont have the worst tax season of my career. Still not sure what to do if TRX doesnt deliver. If they deliver partial then Drake 295 +$19 might be used for complex returns but I really dont know and Im still leaving my options open. /fingers crossed/
  18. I have given this a thought but was holding back on the clients overall reluctance to the CDs
  19. I encrypt my cloud backups with a long confusing pass phrase ... but Im still concerned
  20. Doug, We are betting our practices and reputations on this product. Not to mention my sanity....which according to my wife I havent had a good grip on in years.
  21. Taxed, you are probably right. I might start giving the CD this year to try to ween them off of paper. I bought 1000 the year before last online, got a very good price. I use disc, external hard drive and cloud backups. I like the Western Digital external hard drives. I have a 500GB passport (no power required) and a 2TB that I picked up on Amazon for $90 this past year.
  22. I do the same as SLD. All docs scanned in folder by year then client to pdf, the return too. I have been trying to get my clients to take an electronic copy on CD ($5) insteadof the paper return and for the last two years had NO takers. They all want the paper copy/folder of their return. I still going to push it but hate to resort to a discount to take a cd instead of paper. I dont know why they dont want it. Easy storage, print whatever you want when you want. All documents there and they can even upload it to cloud storage if they want to reduce paper storage (what I do for my personal returns). Its a no brainer for me but young and old alike continue to want the paper docs. Very confusing especially for the younger people who are more familiar with the internet/computer.
  23. Well, I am unable to make the time they do them (Tues-Thurs 2pm est) and Doug said they were all going to be put online and gae the following Youtube link but there are only 2. The Sch C presentation is one of them (I dont think) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqAXOP8VQ2A Doug?
  24. Doug said he was going to upload the trainig webinars for viewing but I can only find two on the Youtube site. Are they on TXrsoftware.com website because I cant find them?
  25. Doug, On returns rolled over from 2011 it appears that you need to enter the invoice price for every form that is included within that particular return. You must do this again for each form for every return that is rolled over. Other software products offer a single (master) form to input billing prices for every tax form and then that billing information is pulled forward to any return that is prepared. Keeping your pricing consistent and providing immediate invoice pricing based on the forms included in that return. The return then allows you to alter that price for discounts, sales tax and any other billing items you need to add. There is also an override to base that returns billing on a flat or hourly rate. Havng to enter the invoice billing price for every return rolled over is very time consuming and opens the preparer up to possible errors. So we need a centralized invoice billing location for the forms please.
