  1. On basic returns like the OP had, wasn't ATX calculating this automatically?
  2. Topic will be moved to the ACA forum once the OP sees the response.
  3. For 2014, for adults, not minors, the penalty per person is the greater of $95 or 1% of MAGI less exemptions and std deduction for the filing status. Then there's another cap where the penalty can't exceed the national average bronze level premium for the family size. I sent the pdf so that you can compare it to what ATX generated for your client.
  4. Is there a typo somewhere in your #s above? If I add up your numbers and assume the taxable SSA is correct, I would get AGI of 23256. When I input this into my program, I get taxable SSA of 1821 and AGI of 24256. I'm getting a penalty of $95. MAGI for the Shared Responsibility Payment has add backs, but the n/t portion of SSA benefits isn't one of them. (MAGI for the PTC does include the n/t portion, but not for the SRP). That may be where you went wrong. I'll send you the 1040 and two worksheets for the penalty by PM so you can take a look at those.
  5. I still have my college textbooks too, all in a box at mom's house in an upstairs bedroom.
  6. If Joe will still be involved in this rental then it seems to me that you would still have a joint venture, and as such, the activity would be properly reported as a partnership on Form 1065. Only when the only parties involved are husband and wife, only then might it be possible for each to report on Sch C IF they each meet the requirements of being a qualified joint venture by each of them meeting the material participation test. Otherwise, even if only H & W are the property owners and one or both fail to meet material participation, then they are merely a joint venture, not a QJV, and again should be reporting on Form 1065, not Sch C or even Sch E. I could be wrong, but I think you are stuck with reporting as a partnership.
  7. Why doesn't the IRS have its proficiency exam administered and regulated at the state level much like the CPAs and attorneys are?
  8. Haha, only enter the one code, but be sure to enter all the codes. Agree with Jack.
  9. Not inexpensively; it looks like Amazon has the old version for ~ $300. If you don't need to actually work within the program, the association could create all of the reports and documents you would need by printing them to a pdf creator program that would allow you to access those electronically for the review work. Then you could give the person doing the bookkeeping the final adjusting entries to enter. No need to actually purchase the program at all.
  10. And I think the insertion into the post is where the cursor is, so the order shouldn't matter as long as you move the cursor to where you want the next jpg to appear.
  11. There's still time to edit the post to remove them, they will stay in your attachments list, and you can reinsert into the post as you choose.
  12. In the upper right corner of the main forum is your user name with a picture (yours, a generic silhouette) with an down-pointing arrow to its right indicating a drop down menu. From that menu, select "Account Settings" that will open a screen that will have a section called "Display Name". Click on that and another screen will open that will have a box to enter a new display name for the forum.
  13. I merged the above post from cbslee from its own separate topic into this one as they are all related to the same subject.
  14. Deb is correct. Filing of individual returns is offline until a date in Jan yet to be announced. Business return shutdown is slated for 12/26. You can always check on the MeF System Status on the IRS site here.
  15. Thanks JMD, I took care of that for him.
  16. Registration is still open, not sure if log-in confirm email will be received in time. Today, 3pm EST, CNA is holding a free 75-minute webinar, and individual participants will receive 1.5 credit hours for attendance. To receive credit, one must register and an individual, must answer polling questions, and must request the credit on the last polling question. 17. Margaret, the number of efiles submitted is only being reported for EAs at this point and isn't shown for the CPAs' submissions.
  18. Eric would have to decide if that seems warranted and is the only one with ability to create additional forums. We usually don't have that many pinned topics, and the one about MeF shutdown will be unpinned in about a month. It only leaves the 2 in the general chat, and that limited number should allow you to see a couple of other posts without scrolling. As the forum will soon get busier, you'll be scrolling anyway, so I don't see the need for another separate forum, because most users still post in general chat even when it pertains to e-fle acks or the ACA regardless of the fact that there are dedicated forums for these areas.

    2015 program

    Thanks for the heads up!
  20. In 2013 I installed a freestanding USPS heavy duty mail box next to my office door. It is locking with a recessed magnetic door, takes large envelopes up to ~ 2" thick. It's not visible from the road because of step's railing and a large shrub. I usually hear the people pull in for drop off, or the dogs do. It is on it's own heavy galvanized matching post, set into quick setting concrete. The ones at the home improvement stores seemed pretty flimsy, and I didn't want to cut a hole in my wall or door, and after watching videos of prying open of cheaper ones, this is what I purchased: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001EU21M0?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00 It was a great decision, saves me many meetings and interruptions with people dropping items like the signed e-file signature forms and monthly payroll data. My only regret is that I didn't have this years ago!
  21. Generous. That book is not inexpensive to purchase on its own.
  22. Just bumping this so that users will see this as a post with activity and realize that it's been moved from General Chat to the E-file forum.
  23. OK, I've moved those first two of the pinned topics to the E-file forum. I could unpin the one about the 1099Gs. I was wondering about this one recently, that is, if anyone found it useful. That would leave only the one topic about the repair regulations which still has posting activity. I think that would help somewhat. I don't think there's much to be done about the header and other white space though. I'm with Margaret about the viewing and have most of my sites set to 125% or higher, otherwise I end up straining to read them. For anyone that still wanted to quickly access the information if these are unpinned, any topic on any of our forums can be bookmarked in your favorites for direct access without having to visit the home screen.
