You can go to the configuration screen and click one of the deductions that aren't being used and click on the down arrow. A menu will drop down and you can select medical insurance. It will then show up on the reports, but I don't know of any way you can make it change the deduction for FICA and Medicare. You have to make those changes manually. If you have only one or two employees, it is not a big deal, but if you have several, you may want a different program. For $45 a year, I can put up with a little inconvenience. If you need more info, I'll try to help.

I like ATX. I have been using it since 1993 or 1994, I don't remember which, but I am open to anything that is an improvement - price wise or quality wise, or both for a small practice like mine.
-
I just renewed with TRS for ATX for the $299 program. It offers everything I need except for the 1099s. I think I can get a 1099 program for a whole lot less than $400.00. If I can't, Carlos said I could upgrade to the $699.00 program and the price would be locked in.

I will probably go with the $299 program. It has everything I need except for 1099 efile. The $699 program has the 1099 efile, but I think I can probablly find a 1099 efile program for a lot less than $400. If anyone knows of such a program, please let us know. I use Medlin for W2s.

I planned it that way before I was born. I like to plan ahead.

Thanks everyone. I've been out of town and just got back. I've been doing absolutely nothing and enjoying every minute of it. Gene

Are we not required to give the client a copy of their return at the time they sign the 8879?
-
I figured that one out right away - and I'm the dumb one. I have trouble remembering my own initials.
-
Thanks Bart.

Thanks Zeke. Uh, what does OP mean? I should know that one, but sometimes I do well to remember yesterday, especially this time of year.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

The PDT would offset the BPD unless of course the the TAF divided by the AMI is greater than the EDI in which case you would use the PIB plus the YAD.

Sorry Jerry, I have been out of town and just now saw your post. Form AL40NR cannot be efiled. If he is filing both a part-year and a nonresident return, both the total personal exemption and the dependent exemption must be claimed on the part-year resident return. No exemption can be claimed on the nonresident return. In Alabama, social security, defined benefit pension plans, and government retirement is not taxed and does not have to be reported; so he may not have to even file an Alabama return. If I can be of further help, let me know. Gene

To be on the safe side, you might try duplicating the return first before removing the sched C.
-
On the asset entry tab, you can move the assets to "unassigned" and then I think you can delete the schedule C without any problem. I have never done this, but if they are on the "unassigned" tab, then they are no longer on the schedule C.

I remember when we had to dial 4 digits.
-
I don't think that type info needs updating.

We are supposed to be getting a new area code in our area sometime next year. Instead of dividing the area in half and some people having to change their number, both area codes will cover the same area. New people getting new phones will get the new area code. The houe next door could have a different area code and when we call anyone, even those with the same area code, we will have to dial the entire 10 diget number. Parts of Atlanta, Georgia, if not all of Atlanta, is already that way.

We do have to remember that IRS agensts do work year round. They can't stop working during tax season. Tax season is a bad time for ALL tax preparers to have to stop and take care of an audit.

I have experienced this a couple of times. When I put a new toner cartridge in, the water mark would be very plain, but after a while, it would suddenly get very light even though the cartridge still had a good bit of toner left in it. When I put a new cartridge in it, it suddenly reappeared. It seems the amount of toner in the cartridge may have something to do with it. I was using a Brother HL 2040 printer at the time.

Maribeth's method probably would leave a copy in the program manager. I just keep a paper copy of the return in my file. I don't have the nerve to go paperless.

For Alabama there is a tab called filing options and you can choose monthly or quarterly and enter the period ending date. I would think New York would work the same way. Each month you just change the ending date and the due date automatically changes. Hope this helps.

What is FAFSA? My mind can't keep up with all the acronyms. Lion, I'm with you, my return is usually the last one I file which is also close to October 15th. You know what they say about the shoemaker's kids going barefoot.

Only if away from home overnight.

That was Jerry Mealer that would say that. I sure do miss that rascal. Since he would never be able to turn his head around enough to see the back of his neck, it meant that he would never do what ever the subject was about.
