I think the nuisance calls are proberly to the ones who have not renewed. I have already renewed with TRX and have only gotten emails concerning RALs which I also don't use.

The only advantage I can see for the prepaid card is for people who don't have a checking account.

I haven't even learned how to use my cell phone other than to talk on it. I'm afraid I'm not smart enough to use a smart phone.

What if the son is sued because of a bad auto accident or whatever, and he loses the home. His mother would be put out of her home.

I too have been wondering about KC. As I remember, her husband was quite ill and I figured that she has been busy taking care of him. Being a care giver can be a very stressful thing. Hope we hear something from her soon.

I tell my clients that bring their stuff in late that I may or may not get them done before the 15th, that I do them in the order received. I do what I can and don't worry about the ones that I can't. I also tell them that if they don't owe any money, they don't have to worry about a penalty for it being late. I lost one client about 3 years ago due to this policy, but those aren't good clients anyway.

I am a one horse operation and don't have anyone to push the button for me, but I don't see that it matters who actually transmits the return as long as the one who prepared the return signs the 8879. How could the IRS possibly enforce such a rule if they required the preparer to be the one to actually transmit the return?

>>Congress has plenty of time to get it done, after all the bribes are in place<< Be careful John. Big brother might be watching.

IRS Announces New Return Preparer Application System and User Fee

>>Are they getting any more money from your clients?<< The first one was a no change. The next three is a corporation and two shareholders (I guess that would be considered one audit) and the jury is still out on that one. The fifth has just received their notification letter and the audit hasn't started yet. On the three that are still in process, one of the shareholders had built a house and sold it and "forgot" to tell me (it's easy to forget little details like that). The other shareholder had a lot of medical expenses due to cancer but his wife threw away all their receipts for 2007 because she thought they weren't needed any longer. The corporation should be OK. -
I would definately think of them as maintenance. It is something that is needed to keep the truck operating. Oil and lubricants are not taxable for sales tax in Alabama regardless of how they are used, so it really wouldn't make any difference here which way it is counted. Come to think of it, I don't guess it would make any difference anyway. Any item that is deductible is deductible whether it includes sales tax or not.

IRS Announces New Return Preparer Application System and User Fee
GeneInAlabama replied to JRS's topic in General Chat
I guess the next step is for the IRS to start charging a processing fee for each return we prepare. Maybe $10.00 for a return e-filed and $50.00 for a paper return. And of course, the states will surely follow suit. I have been having a rash of state audits this year. In over 30 years, I have had maybe 4 or 5 audits by the IRS, and none by the state. This year so far I have had 5 clients audited or being audited by the state. I guess Alabama is really hurting for money. -
Seems to me that the only one that could "certify" a W2 would be the one that issued it. How would the IRS know that it is accurate?

Just because an auditor allowed it doesn't make it deductible. If he has been working at that job site for years, then that is his tax home. No mileage from home to work site or meals. He can deduct miles driven at work minus whatever reimbursement he receives if any. If he were to be sent from work to his home town to do a job, then that mileage would be deductible.

If you had responded before May 1st, you could have gotten it for $299.00, renewable for life if renewed by May 1st each year. I took advantage of the offer and I guess I will just have to wait to see if it was the right choice. So far, I feel good about it. If not, $299.00 is not too big a gamble.

Would like info on receiving faxes on the Internet/email
GeneInAlabama replied to Denne's topic in General Chat
I don't know how it happened, but for about the last 20 years that I have had a fax machine, I have NEVER received a junk fax. Mind you, I'm not complaining; I just don't understand how I have gotten by all this time without receiving one. I do leave my machine on 24 hours a day. I just wish I could say the same about getting telemarketing calls. They are driving me crazy. -
Reasons I don't E-File my clients returns.

>>I use mine to tell time as well for talking!<< That sounds like a great idea. I'll get one of my grandkids show me how to do that. -

>>I currently have a CP2000 proposing additional tax for an amount of income that was clearly reported on a separate line on Sch-F (correctly on line 8b), but the IRS computer still thinks it was not reported. I called the IRS and since they do not have the Sch-F form to look at, with their computer system, they can't see the amount on the tax return as filed.<< That sounds like a reason to NOT efile. I do efile all my 1040s that can be efiled but not business retuns because I do very few of those and in recent years it seems that there were more problems with efiling business returns. I suppose those problems have been worked out, but I just haven't made the change yet. At age 74, I am beginning to feel that maybe I am technologically challanged. I can't even seem to use my cell phone for anything but talking. -

>>With efile, the IRS will be able to know at anypoint what kind of mistakes were made, what kind of exams you have passed and IRS will be able to tell if the returns you are efiling go along with your qualifications. They will also know how many returns you prepared and the average price you are charging based on Sch A. AND MUCH MUCH MORE.<< Uh, I don't think the IRS will know any more about you one way or the other if you efile or paper file. I think the IRS has better things to do than spy on us. If AUDITS show negligence, incompetence or outright fraud; then we need to worry. -
I HATE the rigamarole of calling the IRS. In cases like that I usually just write a letter with copies of everything. For me, that is just as effective and a lot easier (and faster). I hate telephones and would not have one if I didn't have to.

A man showed me his computer the other day. It was made out of wood, about a quarter of an inch in diameter and about 7 inches long. It had graphite going up through the middle of it and the delete button was on the end (made out of rubber). He said a power outage had no effect on it. Maybe I need to trade my computer in on a newer model like his. The man goes by the name of Wildman and has long white hair and a beard that is platted and reaches well below his waist. He wears a gun belt with two guns and operates a civil war surplus store and museum. This is in Kennesaw, GA where there is a law that requires every household to own a gun. The crime rate there seems to be rather low.

You guys are scaring me. I just got my first one to do. I was hoping that I would escape doing one.

You can be sure he will get another one. Just tell him to be sure to send it to you as soon as he gets it.

>>And we haven't even touched on electronic filing of the 1099's.<< JOHN, I can't believe you said that word!
