  1. Thanks Bob, that is good to know.
  2. That's not always so easy. I KNOW what it is like to owe the IRS and everyone else and everyone hollowing for their money. Sometimes we get into those situations through our own fault and sometimes due to no fault of our own. Fortunately, that part of my life is past. When someone tells me they don't have the money to pay what they owe, I BELIEVE THEM. I realize some people cry broke when they aren't but I'm not going to be their judge.
  3. I noticed that they said we have until December 31, 2013 to pass the test. I wonder if they will be giving the test in Hawaii and we can choose the location that we take the test. I believe it will be easier to pass the test in a relaxed atmosphere.
  4. >>I have kept a file copy of all my returns starting with the first one filed in 1958<< I also have copies of most of the returns I have filed which came in handy when I applied for social security. There were 3 years that they didn't have any record of my earnings. I had copies of returns for 2 of those years and they gave me credit for those 2 years. I needed that credit since social security is based on the high 35 years and I did't have 35 years under social security because I worked 18 years for the government before they started withholding SS. They also gave me credit for the 2 1/2 years I was in the military before they came under the social security system. Sometimes it pays to hang onto old records.
  5. If we got rid of all the liars and cheats in government and replaced them with more liars and cheats, would we be any better off? Also, if we do simplify the fedreal tax, what about state tax? Of course, Betty Sue would have no problem with that. No state income tax in Tennessee.
  6. If the IRS goes out of business, wouldn't that put us out of business too?
  7. I also got about half way through the survey and decided it served no useful purpose and quit.
  8. If I am planning on buying a car from a dealership for $25,000 and find another dealer where I can buy the same car for $24,000 if I agree to leave the sticker on the window for a month, am I required to pay tax on the $1,000 I save?
  9. The customer didn't receive any money. He just paid less for the roofing. No 1099. The IRS hasn't figured out a way yet to charge tax on money that we save by doing work ourselves or getting something cheaper by shopping around.
  10. If he is working from his home, I don't see that he has any commuting mileage. I work from my home and I deduct my mileage from my office at home to a client I visit or to the bank or post office. I have been thinking about getting a golf cart to commute from my home to my office which is about 50 feet from my house. Since that would be commuting, I don't suppose that would be deductible?
  11. If you don't need to put it on a network, Medlin Accounting is a very good software for most instances for both accounting and payroll. It is very inexpensive and easy to use and is suitable for all use except very complex situations. You can check it out on www.medlin.com. I have been using Medlin for a number of years and the only complaint I have is not being able to use it on a network.
  12. Can I deduct the expenses I have paid for my dog that I raised from a puppy? If I can, I sure have been missing a lot of deductions.
  13. I would deduct as uniforms and not give it a second thought.
  14. The car may have been a brand new car given by a dealer, but the original post doesn't say that. It says that it was a "customized" car which might have been an antique car. The value may have been inflated by the one that gave the car in order to gain a tax advantage.
  15. Rental property. Sch E.
  16. Do we need to file a nonresident state return if the income is below a certain level? I hope I haven't been missing something.
  17. I have my paper cutter on the other side of my office. I have to get my exercise somehow.
  18. Are you talking about Tax Wise or Tax Works. In the TRX program, you can go to Invoice Settings under the settings menu and a short way down the list you can put in the amount for the W2 summary and an amount for each additional W2. I don't know if TRX is offering Tax Wise this year or not.
  19. >>Or do I rollever the client again and enter the 2 1099 missing and efile from the second rollever? This will include ONLY 2 1099 and a 1096 for $20K.<< Yes.
  20. The punch line really got me. I don't see many this good.
  21. I had used ATX since 1993 when it worked piggyback off Excell and you had to have templates to print the return. I switched to TRX this year and it has been hard for this old dog to learn new tricks. I have learned enough that I am now on the fence as to which I prefer and I imagine that after I have mastered this program, I will stay with it. I got the guaranteed price of $299.00 for life for the TRX Premium by buying early. This seemed like a deal too good to be true, but I stepped out on faith on it. I hope they don't follow the example of CCH and start eliminating some of the features and then start charging extra for those features. I did buy the TRX program last year, but gave up on learning it and bought the ATX program at full price.
  22. I've had friends ask me tax questions and then get mad at me because they didn't like the answer I gave them. If you don't answer them, they still get mad, so what do you do?
  23. Now that they have cracked down on FTHBC, how about EIC?
  24. A false return is a false return, whether we sign it or not.
  25. I have found that people who cheat think that all people do that and don't hesitate to ask others to do that. I have had quite a few people tell me they will pay me in cash so that I don't have to report it. I always tell them I report ALL my income, whether cash, check, or barter.
