James Gandolfini's $30 Million Estate Tax Mistake
GeneInAlabama replied to kcjenkins's topic in General Chat
. . . and you would be amazed at how fast some people who have never had anything before can go through a huge amount of money in a short time. I have seen it happen. -
Right now it's 57 degrees in Barrow, Alaska, the most northern city on the North American Continent. http://www.cityofbarrow.org/

Nice and cool here in my office.

SCL, KC is not only a moderator but a very valuable member to this board. If you don't like what is on this forum, there are lots of other forums out there. Maybe you can find one more to your liking. While I do not care for jokes that refer to breaking God's laws, I can read over them without getting all upset about them. Most of KC's jokes are very humorous and I for one enjoy reading them. Are you so sensitive that you are going to try to censor everything that you don't like? If that is the case, you have a rough life ahead of you.

My wife's first husband was a scoundrel. I have always said that I would rather be married to a woman whose first husband was a live scoundrel than a dead saint. It makes you look like a hero.

I do not believe there is enough reason to start a new forum for buy and sell. Such posts could be posted in the general chat section. If we get too many forums, it could be quite cumbersome.

>>Knee-high by the 4th of July.<< Haven't heard that phrase in a long time, but then, I'm not a farmer. Although, I did plant a tomato plant one time. Would that qualify me for a schedule F?

Years ago, two men showed up in my office and identified themselves as being from the criminal investigation division of the IRS and then read me my rights. They then asked me if so and so was my client and I told them that he was at one time but not now. They then asked me if I knew if he was keeping two sets of books. I told them no, I did not. They asked a few more questions and left and I never heard from them again.

This is why it's hard to trust our government today
GeneInAlabama replied to kcjenkins's topic in General Chat
Some jobs should have a mandatory retirement age. If I were in a house that was burning down, I wouldn't want an 80 year old fire fighter trying to drag me out. I realize this is an exaggeration, but you get the point. A line has to be drawn somewhere, but it should be job specific and should apply only where safety is involved. -

I'm 77. I hope they don't decide to make sole Proprietors retire at a certain age. If I retire, there won't be anyone to continue my business. It will go kaput. Personally, I feel that no one should be forced to retire as long as they are able to perform their job efficiently, unless there has to be a layoff, then those who are of retirement age should be the ones to go first. -
IRS Finalizes Tanning Tax Regulations (for Now)
GeneInAlabama replied to kcjenkins's topic in General Chat
Don't you just love it that when the government decides that something is harmful to your health, instead of banning it, they just find a way to make money off of it? Edit: Kinda reminds me of the way Muslims punish women who do things they consider inappropriate, by raping them. (Might as well get some benefit from dishing out the punishment!) -
Who is to be blamed? Me only or the IRS E-file system too?

Sometimes crazy things happen with SSNs. I had a friend that received a letter saying she owed more tax on income she received in California and she had never been in California. Turns out that two people had the SAME social security number. Both had the same first and last name which was a common name and both applied for their number in the same city within a week of each other. Apparently that was the only time their incomes got mixed up and I don't know which one ended up getting their social security number changed. That was about 30 years ago and the IRS computers weren't as capable then as they are now. -
Every auditor has to do their first audit, every doctor has to perform his first operation, every lawyer has to work their first trial. Just hope you aren't the first in any of those cases. Remember the first income tax you did for pay?

I would simply walk away from my business before I would sell it to HR Block. I think to much of my clients.

We probably should charge more for paper filing since it requires a little more work.

I hope she gives a couple million to the lady she stepped in front of.

I also purchased the Drake package for $1095 and downloaded the 2012 program plus the Client Write Up, Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable which comes withe the package. They gave me the serial number so that I can use the 2012 package including the CWU and payroll. I haven't tried the CWU or the payroll yet but intend to soon. From what I have seen of the Accounts Receivable, it doesn't seem to fit my needs and I don't have any need for the Accounts Payable since I am a very small office, just my wife and me. Hoping that this is the last tax software program that I will ever have to learn. Dennis, I have used the Medlin program for years and have been VERY happy with it, but now my wife who has retired from nursing is working with me and I need to set up on a network. If Medlin ever becomes networkable, please let us know.

Thanks Jack and Eric. I hit the "auto" button on my monitor and it went blank for a few seconds and when it came back on, everything looked a lot better. I don't adapt to change as well as I used to. If only they would quit changing computers, software, and taxes; I would probably be OK. I appreciate the help all of you gave.

I have a 20 inch LED monitor and the resolution is already set at the maximum 1600 x 900 which is the recommended setting for this monitor. The main areas I am having a problem is with the e-mail, especially the headings and the information at the left side of the basic message. The basic message seems slightly less readable than it was before. The calendar is light colored and a little difficult to read. Also, this forum is slightly lighter than it has been, especially the list of topics. My old programs (TaxSlayer, Microsoft Office, etc.) are just as sharp as ever. The videos above are sharp. Maybe part of the problem is that maybe I need to have my glasses changed.

I do not like windows 7. I just bought a new computer with Windows 7 and I am having difficulty reading some of the screens. Is there a way of increasing the contrast so that the screen can be more easily read? I have increased the monitor to 100% contrast and I can't tell that it has made any difference. I don't think it is the monitor because everything was fine with the windows XP computer and I am using the same monitor. I have made all the adjustments I can find through the control panel with no noticeable effect. Is this a characteristic of Windows 7? Is there anything I can do to correct this? Am I doomed to go blind from squinting? Any help would be appreciated.

With a drop box outside of your home, would you remember to check it every day after tax season is over?

>>I would recommend stensiling "TAX RETURN ONLY".<< I would put "TAX RETURN INFORMATION ONLY". Some people might think it means what it says. -

I put a 12 inch mail slot in my office door. If someone puts a package through it, I can't get in my office without tripping on it. It is also very secure.
