5K would be subject to SE, I believe. The full Guaranteed Payments would be subject to SE. The Ordinary Income loss (I assume line 1) is something totally separate. Sometimes, you need to enter 2 separate 'K1' entries for the same K1 (enter Guaranteed payments on 1 and ordinary loss on the other) to get both to flow.

NT - this year its the tax season 20 instead of the tax season 10
jasdlm replied to schirallicpa's topic in General Chat
I'm usually a very healthy eater and very disciplined at exercise. From March 15th until April 15th, I experience a drastic personality shift, and I eat things I wouldn't even consider touching the other 11 months of the year. My husband and son haven't had a decent meal in 3 weeks . -

I get lots of exercise moving my hand from the snack bag to the keyboard and back again. Two chocolate cake donuts this morning (with a latte for calcium and protein)! Eating popcorn now. Girl Scout cookies are next. -
Louisiana Preparers - Glitch with Louisiana Schedule E
jasdlm replied to Cathy's topic in General Chat
Yikes. I only do one LA return, but it seems to be working. Hope I'm not missing anything. Both LA Employee's Retirement and Military Pension, plus IRAs and SS are subtracting from LA AGI. -
How many of your clients Check the "Presidents Election Fund" block
jasdlm replied to Richcpaman's topic in General Chat
None. -
Agreed. I've never had the server issue, and the software has worked pretty well for me. I agree with Tom's comments on Education and Home Office. I have had the program freezing up issue, but only during the past 2 weeks or so. It wasn't happening in the beginning. Overall, I have been happy.

I made a large transposition in entering a W2 this year. Printed the return, caught it on review, and corrected it (made almost a $20,000 difference in tax due). Somehow, staff shredded the new, correct copy and put together the incorrect copy for the client. Luckily, I had emailed the client to give a 'heads up' about the large tax bill. Client noticed that the return did not reflect the large amount due and called me. I was so embarrassed. What really scared me is that if I hadn't emailed the client, I might have efiled a return that was not the same as what the client thought he had signed off on. Note to self: Double check amount due/refund on signed 8879 before clicking 'send'. Easy to do at the beginning of the season, but a lot more difficult now.

I love this Board. Thanks so much!

Can you point me to this thread (obviously, I'm having the same problem), or Tom, will you give me the magic check box, please?
-
Thanks so much! One gets so tired this time of year, it's hard not to second-guess everything.

Taxpayer was on an exchange between Universities. He was paid by his home University but working for part of the year in IN. The W2 is from the home University with withholding only in the home State. Do I need to file an IN return and try to apportion the income, or can I just file the home state since there is no IN source income?

I keep tootsie pops sitting out in my office, and when clients ask if they can have one, I tell them, 'yes, if you're good'.
-
Thank goodness! How terrifying. So glad it is back on track.

Happy Anniversary! I can't believe you got married during tax season. I have to ask . . . did you set your wedding date in a pre-tax part of your life? (Get it . . . 'pretax'?)

Final partnership return - ending capital accounts
jasdlm replied to LorianneH's topic in General Chat
You can go into the 'input' field of the K1 (or maybe it's 'Global Allocation) and there is a place where you can select for the K1 to show the capital account calculations. -
I was on a roll tonight, but alas, my 8 year old son just called (yes, it's midnight). He was crying. He had a bad dream, and according to him, 'Daddy is doing nothing about it'. So much for my roll. I'm off to ward off nightmares.

I am impressed that you meet clients that late! I am sitting at the computer in sweat pants and barefoot. . . Eating nacho cheese doritos and trying not to turn anyone's paperwork orange. I know I'm near the end of my rope . . . I'm really funny about food, and I cook/eat very healthy. My husband and son got pizza hut last night, and tonight I told them to eat leftover pizza hut (as if one night wasn't bad enough) and I'm eating Nacho Cheese Doritos.

NT / You know those people who don't set up voice mail?
jasdlm replied to RitaB's topic in General Chat
I love texting clients. They answer more quickly than they answer email, and you don't have to waste time with a phone conversation. We have some rental properties, and texting tenants is even better than texting tax clients! -
I wish we would have done the 'pass' last night before I slogged through a messed up QB file and a nearly hopeless balance sheet. Basically had to reconstruct the entire year from the bank statements.
-
Come to my office. I will keep you entertained. I won't even give you 'stinkies' to prepare .
-
I finally cleaned up the QB for a partnership I have been looking at and skipping over. Aaargh. I really don't understand some people's logic when it comes to QB. i KNOW they are not accountants, but I would still think that logic would dictate. I also now have most of my clients set up where I remote in to their QB file (through log me in, Radmin, etc.) and do my clean up right there. I gave up on clients making journal entries long ago. This has saved me quite a bit of time, because I don't have to go back and fix my previous year's balance sheet before I can move forward with the current year.

SOooooo True. It's very sad when tallying numbers at the end of the night. I have counted what I have left and divided by the number of days to try and set my 'per day' goal. I really want to be done by the 11th, but it's not looking very hopeful.
-
I'm making myself do only 'stinky' returns today. Complicated returns, or returns where clients aren't very organized, etc. I'm only on my 4th return, and I've been here since right after Church . I need to find a better system. It's depressing when at the end of the day, your numbers aren't very good.

I'm losing it - where are quarterly forms 941?
jasdlm replied to Margaret CPA in OH's topic in General Chat
Try opening a new return and choose 941 (2014) from the selections that come up? -

I can open 2014 941s in my Payroll 2013. Update forms and try again?
