  1. And it's a very good thing on April 11th! Me: (via email) "I hope you're expecting a big tax bill this year." Client: "Yep, we know." Me: "Do you want to know my first pass at the tax due?" (Still waiting on a few items.) Client: "Not until I go check the balance in our savings account. Hopefully it is a large amount." Maybe it's just because I'm tired, but I laughed out loud! Any other good laughs?
  2. Professional Bull Riding! (I'm not the professional.)
  3. Thanks, OldJack!
  4. Church marked Pastor's W2 as 'statutory employee'. Other than that, standard w2 with box 1 and housing allowance in box 14. It shouldn't be marked 'statutory', should it? I don't want the IRS looking for a schedule C. Any thoughts?
  5. I like the software, also. I give a mini-shout out only because I had the 'disappearing asset' thing multiple times.
  6. I have always been able to get it waived, also. Just complete the form, take the penalty down to 0, and hit send! I, like NECPA, tell my clients to take it immediately.
  7. Ditto.
  8. Hugs to you. I really hate days like that. Feel better.
  9. It's a non-refundable credit, but since the excess premium credit is coming through online 46/47, I agree with Judy. I'm assuming the 8962 is completed correctly?
  10. It goes right along with 'I know you're busy, but . . .'

I wish we could work it out. I really hate to see you 'missing' from another season. You have taught me quite a bit since I started my practice, and since I never practiced in a firm and do not have any partners, it has been invaluable. When you or OldJack were tough on me when I asked a question I should have known the answer to, it made me work harder and research more before I asked, which made me a better practitioner. There are many people on this Board to whom I owe a debt of gratitude. I'm afraid to name them because I might leave someone out. It's just sad when someone is missing from 'the firm'. I hope you are well.
  12. LLC that holds rental real estate. All fixed assets are gone from 2012, 2013, and the 2014 rollover (I started doing the return in 2013). Where are they? I'm trying really hard not to have a total meltdown.
  13. I have my assistant call everyone I haven't heard from (she did this Friday) and say 'We are assuming that you already got your taxes taken care of, which is great, but we thought we would check in to make sure you did not need us to file an extension for you'. Out of 19 people called on Friday, 17 begged 'if I have it there by Monday, will you try to get it done before the 15th'? Staff answered 'no promises, but we will do our best, and they will be processed in the order they come in'. I do this every year during the first few days in April. I always intend to get the returns done (and always do), but the threat of 'maybe not' seems to works well. My guess is that most of them will show up on Monday, and then they will be very responsive when I reach out for questions. Also, the first line suggesting that they got the taxes done elsewhere seems to help. Might be worth a try.
  14. There's an AR-15 in the gun safe downstairs, and he knows about it, but he hasn't seen it or touched it. (Don't anyone freak out, please. There is no ammo in the safe, and it is locked up tight and too heavy to steal.) Even with the Cadbury Mini Eggs, I think the recoil might knock him on his back side. He only weighs 59 pounds . When he's older, Daddy will take him to the range after he has completed all his safety courses and successfully made it through all of the 4H shooting-sports progressions. Rita, do you think the eggs will still be good 7 years from now? Or the clients will still be 'deserving'?
  15. My parents just came through town, and they just had to deal with the mess! They took the family out to lunch and brought me a burger. I am working until 7, and then it's Easter until 1:00 tomorrow afternoon!
  16. I think he can do grenades! He's still in BB guns, and he has to progress through air rifles before he gets to anything serious, but grenades I think he can do. He works cheap - a frosted sugar cookie ought to do it.
  17. I just treated my office to Sub sandwiches (hot, cheesy ones made at a local shop with homemade/made daily bread). I at an entire sandwich and a bag of nacho cheese doritos (I'm kind of a health nut, so this was a big deal). We celebrated firing a couple of clients. I need a nap!
  18. It is not foreign real estate. I think Judy must be right. It must be ADS. Maybe it was originally less than 50% business (strange for a residential rental, but who knows). Thanks much! When I first started preparing tax returns (and was new to this Board) I questioned the 19 year depreciation. Jainen and OldJack rightly let me know that I had better learn my tax history a bit better. When I think back to what I didn't know then (certainly don't know everything now, but at least I hope now that I know when I need to ask), it terrifies me that I was completing other people's returns!
  19. I like the idea of completing 10 returns before lunch!
  20. This happened to me yesterday. I saved the return, closed completely out of ATX, and reopened. Voila. It was there. I really hope this works for you.
  21. This is my first year on this return, and I have never seen this. I remember some weird thing in the 80s where there was 19 year depreciation. Was there something special in 2000? Thanks in advance to all those who were practicing in 2000.
  22. Thank goodness. I use on 3 machines, also. I was having a minor meltdown, but I'll go back to returns now.
  23. I'm going to let my 9 year old bring in his bow and arrow. "Ooops, sorry . . . he wasn't aiming at you . . . he's only 9". Won't mention that he's been shooting for 3 years and is a pretty good mark.
  24. Do you mean no more unlimited efiling? I don't like the sounds of this. Same question as Margaret. What are user packs?
  25. Working all except: Friday evening dinner with friends and oldest daughter coming home from college for Easter. Saturday evening dying eggs and late dinner with immediate family. Sunday Church, Easter Bunny Falderal (youngest is 9), brunch, and back to work. Have to do 9 per day.
