I figured the job of a Global Warming Czar anywhere in Cali would be to print the stickers that say "Global warming is known to the state of California to cause cancer and birth defects"

I am very dependent on the internet. Website development is my job, both 9-5 and freelance. Sorry about derailing the thread, but Im about to move from my apartment to a house in the boonies where moose are my only neighbors. If we can't get wireless internet, our only option will be satellite. (dialup is not an option, I need some form of broadband) How has your experience been with your satellite service? Who is your provider?

ATX Is Still Promoting Their Tax Community On Their Web Site!
Eric replied to GeneInAlabama's topic in General Chat
Or at least changed the link to www.atxcommunity.com I think the rest of the paragraph still holds true ^_^ -
Excellent, glad to hear it ;)

I made a new birthday emoticon You can use it by typing ": bday :" (without the quotes or spaces) or by going to "Show All" above the emoticon box. Oh, and Happy Birthday, Ron :bday:

Only for about 2400 ft... I need to work on my landing.

Haha thanks guys. Tell me, since I've never had someone else do my tax return, what can I do to make it easier on the preparer?

I've got dual monitors at work, and at home. When I have to use a laptop, I get frustrated from having to constantly minimize/maximize windows to get around. Other than the expense of the second monitor, the hardware required to move to a dual monitor setup can be quite inexpensive. You can get a video card with two outputs for less than $50.

Haha well thanks for the information. I don't really have a business for doing this stuff on the side, I just somehow get roped into doing these things. I've never itemized before, filed a Sch C, etc etc etc, although I may attempt to do that this year. And if I do decide to make an effort to file more than my usual very basic tax return, I'm going to pay someone else to do it for sure. Especially after reading this thread. Idunno how you people do it.

So saying I'm donating computer software worth $2000 is not correct? When I say computer software, I mean the chunk of code that is their online bill pay system, for example.
-
So here goes. I'm a computer nerd, not a tax geek, so this may be common sense to you guys. I'm working on a website, brand new from scratch, for a local hospital. They're a non-profit. I've been working on this site for more than 5 months. The project has grown far beyond what it started out as, and I'm not getting paid a lot for it. (I'm not sour about this, I just really want to be able to finish it before I go nuts.) My question is this: I've been (loosely) tracking my hours. They're paying me for the project, not hourly. If you figure my hourly rate multiplied by the time invested, the difference is roughly $2000 and growing by the day. Can I claim that difference somehow as a donation to the organization? EDIT: Please, no fancy tax talk, pretend you're talking to one of your clients. One of your "slow" clients. :P

Sorry it's taken me so long to respond, I've been ridiculously busy redoing a local hospital's website. Try this in IE7: 1. Tools > Internet Options > Privacy 2. Click Sites If you see atxcommunity.com anywhere in the Managed websites list, remove it before moving to the next step. 3. Under Address of website type http://www.atxcommunity.com 4. Click Allow 5. Click OK Hopefully, after you do this, your username/password will be remembered after the next time you log in.

The web browser on your new laptop is probably blocking the cookie. It's remembering the fields for the login form allowing the information to auto-complete when you start typing, but that's different from the cookie. Somewhere in your browser settings there is a place to tell it not to block cookies from this website. If you can't find it, let me know what web browser and version, and I should be able to tell you how to get there.

I just checked and confirmed that none of them went through. I'm not sure why you're receiving the error message, though.
-
nope, I don't believe it's possible, although I could probably run a SQL query if you're really curious

The photo you added shows up in your profile, but your avatar is what shows up under your name when you post. See "Edit Avatar Settings" in your control panel. EDIT: Beaten!

I haven't changed anything, but I think I can explain the difference in the numbers. I did a quick check, and it looks like the total at the bottom of the front page is the total number of registered members. Right now, there are 10 people who have started the registration process, but have not yet validated their e-mail address. These people are not counted in the total because they can't yet log in and post, although you can see their usernames in the list of Members. Members who do not validate their email within 30 days will be deleted automatically by the system. And yes, you can trust that Newest Member feature.

I think if you go back 3-5 pages in General Chit-Chat, you'll see more of those "How Do You Handle" discussions, as those topics were created in the last week or two of the tax season.

You're very welcome, I'm glad you like the format ^_^

I've disabled the stronghold cookie. I'd remove any atxcommunity.com related cookies and then try to log in.. let me know if there's any improvement.
-
Well, i misspoke. There are multiple cookies, but they all do come from www.atxcommunity.com Their names are: coppa pass_hash member_id session_id ipb_stronghold modids forum_read topicsread There may be more than that for certain functions, but I'm not sure. I'm wondering if you're having trouble with the ipb_stronghold cookie, which contains encrypted geographical data. Its function is to make cookie stealing almost impossible, but anyone who has trouble with it for whatever reason would have to log in more than usual. If you can verify that the ips_stronghold cookie is getting set but you're still having issues, let me know. I'd prefer to leave it enabled for added security, but if it's causing problems, I will disable it.

I've closed the poll. Thanks to those who voted!

The board is trying to set two cookies.. if you're only getting one of them, this could be the problem. Is there way you can whitelist atxcommunity.com so that all cookies are always accepted by your browser?
