Hey Gerald, it's totally up to you. Everyone was quite generous in the middle of tax season when the bandwidth jumped through the roof and I eventually had to make the difficult decision to move the entire site over to a new server. It's been smooth sailing ever since. The PayPal account is always happy to accept a few bucks, though, and that's where the hosting bill is paid from. I deposit most of the checks that come in and transfer them to that same account, although I will admit that sometimes they pay for lunch instead

Are all of the old posts still available on the official community? If so, I would say it's still a valuable resource and I'd consider linking to it. What do you folks think? Also, how are posts on the official community with links to this site handled? Are they censored or left alone? Just curious.

Breaking the forum up into 50 sub-categories would make it quite difficult to casually browse the forum. I think kc is right, the best way to make the posts easier to search would be to request that everyone spell out the entire state name in their post, or maybe even include the state in the topic title. We could pin a topic to request this, if you like.

Vista Service Pack 1 is out... but for some reason Microsoft strongly recommends that you wait until it's available through the auto update to install it. I'm most likely going to upgrade to Vista (64 bit version) within the next couple weeks because Windows XP (32 bit) can only recognize about 3.5GB of my RAM (out of 6GB)

That time down at the bottom should be the same time that's attached your posts... I too noticed the inconsistencies when looking at the time zone controls page. I'll probably just ignore that weirdness as long as the time stamps on all of the posts continue to show accurately.
-
When you browse the forum is the time at the very bottom right still wrong? If so, I'm not sure what to tell you. I guess I would just set the time zone wrong intentionally to make it so that the time itself is correct.

I've noticed some strange things with the DST settings on the forum. When I go into my Board Settings (under My Controls) and update my settings, the time shown at the bottom of the page is off by one hour.. but within a couple minutes of browsing the site, the time is corrected. If you clear your cache and refresh this page, is the time still off by an hour? and if so, in which direction?
-
I have patched a few files, and the DST bug should now be fixed. If your time is still off by an hour, clear your browser cache and reload/refresh the page.

Vista Users... How is it working for you Pros and Cons
Eric replied to ljwalters's topic in General Chat
Right now, I have no reason to upgrade, XP is doing everything I need it to. If anyone is looking to upgrade, I would wait until Vista Service Pack 1 is released. I've used Microsoft products long enough to know that early adopter = unpaid beta tester. My wife's laptop has Vista on it, and we honestly haven't had that many problems with it. The battery lasts quite a bit longer with all of the frilly visual stuff turned off. I think most of the big name computer companies still offer some computers with XP pre-loaded if you're reluctant to switch. For example, all of the computers in Dell's Small-Medium Business section give you the option to choose between XP and Vista. -
No problem at all. As far as I know, there's one other person having the same problem, but I'm hoping she'll be able to get her ISP to fix it soon.

It was very neat.. I thought about taking photos, and now I regret not doing it.
-
This was my fault. The server time was off by an hour, and I didn't notice because I had my daylight savings setting turned on.
-
There is also a Daylight Savings checkbox somewhere that could be throwing your time off as well.

...and a few small changes have been made. Your personal profile picture can now be 512kb, up from 75kb or whatever it was before, so if you didn't put a profile picture up before because it didn't allow large enough files, give it another try. Private message inbox size has been increased to 100 messages up from 50. Each member gets 2mb of upload space for attachments, up from 1mb. Members can now delete their own posts. Members can now change their own topic titles and descriptions.

Alright, the poll is dead even, so for now we'll just leave the forum setup as is. Thanks to all who voted!

I changed the user permissions so that people can delete their own posts. Be careful! the Delete button is right next to the Edit button :)

AICPA Links to vendor websites, sales e-mail addresses, postal addresses Taxsites.com Links to vendor websites The CPA Technology Advisor 2008 Review of Tax Preparation Suites If you have a link to add, send me a Private Message and let me know. Also, let me know if any of these links become outdated/broken so that I may remove them.

I'll pin a closed topic that includes the AICPA link.

1) From a performance / bandwidth point of view, there is really no difference. It would only take a moment to add a new forum, so really besides your second question, the only variable is what you folks would prefer. 2) That is a possibility. With the vote as close as it is, this might be the deciding factor for now.
-
The poll is quite close--I'll leave the voting open until the end of the week.
-
What do you think? The question was posed last year, but the membership has grown considerably since then. Do you think the ATX Community would benefit from having an Off Topic section?
-
If you guys think it's time to have another poll about whether an "Off Topic" section would be beneficial, just say the word, and I'll start something in the Website Discussion forum.
