  1. If there are any Firefox fans around, you might want to check out the latest version. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/down...&lang=en-US You'll have to be patient though, they're trying to get into the Guinness Book of World Records for the most software ever downloaded in 24 hours, so the servers are a bit sluggish. I've been using Firefox 3 since it was still in Beta, and I'm quite happy with it. On the surface, the changes seem small, but performance has been greatly increased.

UMaine Presque Isle. It's embarrassingly ugly at the moment, but it'll receive quite a face lift by the end of the summer.

My feeling is that you folks can do whatever you like. Unfortunately, my project over the summer (to re-design and create from scratch an entire university website) is going to keep me crazy busy, so I'll be unable to participate or help out by adding features to the forum. PayPal Donations go straight into the account where the hosting bill comes out of, so the number and size of any donations are of no consequence to me.

    Hit 100 Posts!

Congrats on the milestone Only 400 posts to go before you make "ATXaholics Anonymous" :D
  5. For the most part, I don't think Apple had to develop Windows drivers for much at all. Since moving to Intel processors, most of their hardware is no different from what you find in your average PC, aside from the pretty case they pack it all into. As for rebooting, that depends on whether you're using Boot Camp to dual-boot Windows / OS X or if you're using Parallels to run Windows as a virtual machine on top of OS X. The latest version of Parallels for OS X has a pretty slick feature called Coherence Mode.. check out the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKsW0v90zRg I can't comment on printing since I haven't tried myself, but as PC and Mac hardware become more similar, I imagine those quirks are working themselves out.

Like it or not, there are going to be ex-ATXers here using different software. I've got no way to make sure people are using ATX software, and even if I did I wouldn't exclude them from the community. Adding some extra forums is really no trouble and has no effect on my hosting bills, which is what your generous donations pay for. At least with a sub-forum, it'll be all that much easier for you to ignore the posts. If any of the smaller other-vendor forums explode and start consuming excessive resources, I may be forced to reconsider, however.
  8. You might want to try installing the latest MS Jet 4.0 service pack: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/239114/

I can set one up temporarily to see how it goes. If it takes off, I could leave it there, but if it stagnates, I may remove it. What's their website address?
  10. GMT is the default setting. If you don't change it when you register, that's how it stays until you stumble across the setting in your control panel.
  11. It's been added :D
  12. I believe that is specific to Internet Explorer. I think it requires that you install ieSpell, which is an addon for Internet Explorer that can be downloaded here: http://www.iespell.com/ I've never used it, so I can't say how well it works.
  13. I don't believe there is a spell check feature. Some web browsers (Firefox, for example) will underline misspelled words in red. You can right-click those words and choose from a list of suggestions to correct them. If that's not what you're talking about, could you be more specific about what you're seeing?
  14. Yes, there is plenty in the account to cover the rest of the year, and then some. If this past year is any indication, bandwidth use will drop quite a bit over the next few months. I can't tie an exact number to the site's hosting costs, it now shares one of my dedicated servers with a few other sites. That server costs $375 per month plus a little extra if I go over my allotted bandwidth, of which atxcommunity.com uses about half. There are some other little fees for the domain name and forum software, but they don't add up to much. KC is right, it's tied directly to how many posts you make. 0-24 posts = Newbie 25-99 posts = Member 100+ posts = Advanced Member I could add as many of those as I wanted, in fact, maybe I'll add one for 500+ called ATXaholics Anonymous ;)
  15. Check your time zone settings. Step 1. Scroll down to the very bottom of this page and look at the time on the right hand side. It'll say Time is now: [whatever current date and time is] Is it way off? If so, then continue. Step 2. Go to My Controls > Board Settings (under Options) and set your time zone to CST. Click the Change my Account Settings button at the bottom. Step 3. After you've saved the new settings, clear your browser cache and then browse around some posts on the forum. Look at that time down at the bottom right corner again. Is it now correct?
  16. I have a real hard time asking for money, but essentially what everyone has said here is right on the nose, especially the parts bout me being such a great guy As for the e-mail address, I've created a new one that will redirect to the e-mail account that I check most often. Sorry about that!
  17. So can we officially call an end to the ?
  18. Tom wasn't the only person to complain, I got PMs from others as well. I'll send you an e-mail.
  19. That's self-appointed fascist forum administrator. Out of 17,000+ posts, those two were the only ones I've removed. If you've got a problem with my decision to remove them, send me a PM.

I'm not sure why your browser would suddenly decide not to remember your password. What web browser are you using? How often do you have to log in? Once a day? Every few hours? After every time you close the browser and re-open it? I guess If I were experiencing weirdness like this, I would start by logging out of the site and then clearing your browser's cache, history, and cookies. Restart your browser, visit the site, log in. Besides that, try a different browser (if you're using IE, try Firefox. If you're using Firefox, try IE. Opera is another popular choice.) If the same thing is happening in different browsers, then maybe it's something I can tweak on my end, but I think I've relaxed cookie settings on the site as much as I can without affecting security.
  21. How many of you have custom spreadsheets that you import into your tax returns? What do you use them for? Are they likely to be useful to others? I'm just trying to get a feel for whether having a library of downloadable spreadsheets would be a useful addition to this site.
  22. I distinctly remember depositing your last check so I didn't blow yours on food And the site has plenty in the bank right now. I'm guessing that with the slow-down after tax season, there should be plenty to pay for hosting up through AT LEAST the rest of the year, and probably well into next tax season.
  23. That sounds really good right about now
  24. Since they'll never have a way to moderate this forum, I highly doubt they're very keen on the idea of funding it ;)
  25. Maybe you can think of it as "will you continue to use the unofficial ATX Community, now that the official one is back?"
