While we're on the subject of beautiful... this is in HD, and if you're going to take the time to watch it, you might as well do it full screen for the full effect. More information about the video and its production:

Ahh, I think I see. You can't paste directly into the editor. You must save the screen shot as a file on your computer, and then attach that file to a post. I believe the Attach Files thing only shows up on the full editor, not the quick reply box at the bottom of the thread. See attached screenshot:

... and Alt+Print Screen will capture the currently active window instead of the full screen

There are limitations on the size of files that you can upload, and also the format of the files that you can upload. If you want, you can email a copy of what you tried to upload along with the exact error message you received, and I'll try to see what's up. KC is right too, there's a lot better chance of me seeing a message if you send a PM to me directly.

I can't explain that. You mentioned having an issue before, but it seemed to be a specific file. Is that the case again? Feel free to email it to me too.

Of course! I'll do that right now. It's currently set to 20... so I'll double it to 40? What do you think?

You guys are way too generous. I feel guilty for all of the cash you guys send for the small amount of work I put into keeping the site going. There are some big changes coming later in the year, though! I'll post more info as it gets closer.

I still have 6' tall snow banks. It's going to be a while before I see dandelions.

Seems logical to me. It has more in common with silver and gold than currency. They are a commodity (although imaginary) that can be "mined", there's a finite amount available, it has a market value that fluctuates, but not a value that can be easily manipulated.

It's the not-weird people you have to worry about.

I'll just leave this here

I guess it could also be that the forum software doesn't keep a live total of views, and the number is only periodically updated for performance reasons. The number of replies is definitely more important, and I would expect that to be updated immediately upon posting. EDIT: Found a setting in the forum software:

There is no delay. Generally speaking, if you can see the thread, everyone else can too. If I were to guess, I'd say it's caused by your browser loading the page from cache/memory when you read a topic and then hit Back to return to the topic list. Next time you notice it happening, refresh/reload the page, or navigate to the topic list by some method other than hitting back/forward in your browser.

Buy a new keyboard. Run the old keyboard through the dishwasher, and let it dry completely before plugging it back in, 2 or 3 days at least. I shake the heck out of it to get as much water out as I can, sometimes take a hair dryer to it, but I find that a couple days outside in the sun during the summer works great. It'll be like brand new, as long as it still works. And if not, well, you've already got a replacement. I wash mine every couple years, and about 1 out of 5 times they don't work afterward, but they're cheap enough so that it doesn't bother me too much. Dirty keyboards kind of gross me out. Before I worked at ATX, I had an awful job where I had to share a cubicle with people who worked other shifts. I once ran a toothpick between the rows of keys--I won't go into detail. The things I've seen, I cannot un-see. Edit for details: None of my desktop keyboards are fancy or wireless, or have LED back-lighting, or anything like that. I would guess that the more complex and fancy a keyboard is, the more likely they are to fail after a bath. I wash the keyboards alone, and without soap. I don't use the heated-dry option.

I finally found the thread that was making donations appear in my inbox. You guys seriously give too much, and I've been away from the place for the past month or so trying to catch up on work, and new jobs just keep rolling in. Is that a hint? Are you bribing me to stay off the forums?

I upgraded one computer with an SSD drive a little more than a year ago just to see what it'd be like. I didn't expect much, but I was really surprised. Since then, I've upgraded the rest of the computers--4 desktops and a laptop, all with 256gb Samsung SSDs. My slowest desktop is about 5 years old, and loading Photoshop on that computer has gone from being obnoxiously slow to quite snappy. It's not a very big drive, but it's just got to hold the Operating System and some software. Most of my files (photos and other documents) are stored on the NAS in my closet.

Wow, that's a good deal. I only allow people to choose one out of the three.

I usually just make a smiley face when I get coffee. It's impossible to make anything that looks like my signature with a regular touch screen.

A local coffee shop recently switched out their regular swipe terminal for a tablet with square. Rather than an expensive stand, they got a cover that uses the cover to fold behind it to prop it up on the counter. My parents own a small frame shop / art supply store, and they're thinking about making the same switch. I recommended any of the Samsung Galaxy Note tablets to use with it, because they have active digitizers, which is a nerdy way to say that they support pressure sensitive and very accurate styluses, which makes note taking/drawing/signatures a much nicer experience. Intuit has a similar service called gopayment or something like that, but I don't know about USB/laptop compatibility. I know intuit does sell a USB card reader for $70, so maybe that could work?

All good suggestions, curious to know if you got it worked out?

It happened one time while I worked there (Caribou office). We had to start late after getting 20+" of snow over night. The roads were clear, but we couldn't get to the building without digging a tunnel. "Piled up" probably literally. Here are a few photos from Birmingham Alabama. Almost makes you feel sorry for insurance companies. Just kidding, nothing makes me feel sorry for insurance companies.

I'm sure Microsoft gets a lot of pressure from government and large companies that don't want to deal with the expense and the headache of upgrading all of that hardware and software.

I can't speak to the quality of it since I've never had one, but as long as the monitor you're looking to use with it has a VGA port, and as long as the resolution of the monitor is one of the supported resolutions of this device, then it should work for you. Standard(16/32 bit): 1600x1200, 1400x1050, 1280x1024, 1280x960, 1152x864, 1024x768, 800x600 Widescreen(16/32 bit): 1680x1050, 1400x900, 1280x800, 1280x768, 1152x864, 1024x768, 800x600 The Amazon page for this item has a little more info about the device, and a lot of reviews if you're interested. http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Multi-Monitor-External-Adapter/dp/B002FJQXXC/
