  2. Do you have Efile status box at the bottom of your Return Manager screen? If not, change your settings to show that. Then when you highlight the return, does the extension show as Accepted? I just made some changes to a return that was extended, and I did not have that happen. Are you sure you actually transmitted the extension efile? With the return open, go to the E-file menu and choose Display Acknowledgement History. What does that say?
  3. Wow, what Marilyn is experiencing with the returns and myATX is scary. I wonder how many other users have that happening. Support may be flooded with calls.
  4. I have been having issues with returns that we filed extensions for on the 15th. It appears to me that if you already had part of the return filled in, any changes made today have to be done in a copy of the original return. That is the workaround that I am using; otherwise the returns are being rejected. When finished, I, then, efile the copy. I am a wreck and it is Sunday and Easter besides. I am creating a copy of every return that we efiled extensions for on the 15th just to get them through. It is a royal pain. I have looked at some of the returns on My ATX and it shows them accepted on the 15th and rejected today; when I only selected the 4868 to efile on the 15th.
  5. ^^^^^^ What @GLGACCT said. Double check that your efile manager does not show a rejection for the extension. If it does, call support. If not, you are good and the error is just telling you that you revised the return and saved it when you have an accepted efile. Tom Longview, TX
  6. Are you sure the efile manager says the extension was rejected? After the 4868 was accepted and you go revised the return you will see some type of a save error like you stated but it should not reject the 4868. After you add the K-1 and you click on check return you will have a red error about the 4868. However, when you click the efile button to finalize the return after your corrections, you would only select federal and state. It will do the error check again and since you are not doing the extension the error will not be there. Again, this is assuming that the 4868 says accepted. However, in your case if the efile manager has the extension rejected something else is going on.
  7. Sorry, no longer an ATX user, but there should be a place to tell the program that 4868 was previously filed and now you are working on filing the actual 1040. That may allow the program to keep the status of the 4868 as filed while you finish your input. For Drake, even with doing something like above, it does create a message saying the extension was already filed and can't be sent again, but it's just a warning note, not a red error.
  8. Not entirely averse to your message from Ohio - large farms in the midwest. I do have a few farmers with $2 million in equipment and annual repair costs that are huge. These guys have to have $150,000 in annual revenue just to break even. Ohio is perhaps the easternmost area of the "farm belt" extending from there to the Dakotas with huge farms. A "large farm" in the Southeast can be 100 acres. The Ford F450 I wouldn't allow was on a "farm" of 32 acres, with the owner having a full time job.
  9. Marilyn, The return hasn't been e-filed - the changes made were done yesterday - I e-filed the extension on 4/11/25 and until yesterday the efile status in the efile manager was "accepted". As soon as I clicked to save the changes for the late K-1 it changed to Rejected. The efile rejection error says "the return was changed after the efile was created. The efile was rejected to ensure that you would re-create the efile and incorporate the changes before you transmit it." What's confusing is that the rejection is on the Form 4868 extension. I would expect, then that, every 4868 efile would be rejected because of changes made to the return after the efiling of the extension but before the actual filing of the return, as for a late K-1 (kinda the whole purpose of putting the return on extension in the first place).
  10. The extension itself might be fine, but you cannot make changes to the return after it is filed. My opinion would be to file an amended return.
  11. Is it normal for an extension (in the e-file manager) to go to rejected status after it was accepted? I made changes to the return for a late K-1 and as soon as I clicked save, the original extension was "rejected". Two questions: is the rejection only in ATX's system & when I go to create the efile to file the return, do I select Federal 1040 and the Federal Extension or just the Federal 1040? If I sound confused I am. As you can probably tell from the question, I don't normally have any extensions filed. Thanks
  12. Well in our area all farmers drive big fancy trucks and run them into the ground hauling animals, feed, etc.. And they have to drive on the interstate to get places. Not uncommon to spend over 1/2 million on a combine that comes stock with gps farming systems, ac and a descent sound systems. Is that extravagant and doesn't meet deductible standards ? Hell we have farmers with multiple thousands of acres. Sell millions in crops and animals each year. If I said you can not depreciate your 1/2 million combine with a stereo system or your Ford F450 extended cab with leather seats because they are too extravagant, I would get prodded with a pig sticker !!!! If its not 100% farm use, give them a percentage.
  13. Over-the-road perhaps. I walked away from a Ford F450 six-passenger which cost $109,000 brand new in 2024. "Farm use only" does not imply interstate driving, although it could conceivably happen. I'm not hand-picking the following just to prove a point. It is a random sample of "Farm use only" Trucks 1984 1 ton Chevy Truck (bought 1993 for $4800) 9 years old when bought 1970 1 ton Chevy Pickup (bought 1982 for $2300) 12 years old when bought 1984 3/4 T Chevy Pickup (bought 1992 for $4200) 8 years old when bought 1993 Chevy 1/2 T Van (bought 2004 for $3300) 11 years old when bought 1992 Dodge Ram pickup (bought 2013 for $800) 21 years old when bought An "extravagant" farm truck: 1993 Ford 4X4 (bought 1999 for $10,800), but a 4X4 is understandable. There are several more but they are of similar ilk.
  14. To clarify Lee's post: "An eligible educational institution is a school offering higher education beyond high school. It is any college, university, trade school, or other post-secondary educational institution eligible to participate in a student aid program run by the U.S. Department of Education." IRS Pub 970 No gray area here.

  16. I used the word tuition for lack of a better descriptor. This is a private company sitting in with an individual working towards a job which here is a county or state position. I sent her back to inquire if anyone there knew of any tax benefit applicable to these payments. As noted I have never seen anything quite like this. I will wait to see if she comes back with anything.
  17. "To claim the LLC, you must meet all three of the following: You, your dependent or a third party pay qualified education expenses for higher education. You, your dependent or a third party pay the education expenses for an eligible student enrolled at an eligible educational institution. The eligible student is yourself, your spouse or a dependent you listed on your tax return."
  18. Check out the rules for the Lifetime Learning Credit. Kind of a gray area.
  19. Me too! And that has been my fear that this will not post correctly, even though I filed on time.
  20. If you haven't yet done so, I would go to Drake's support site, and under "Reports," print out the "E-file Detail Lookup Report ." That report is more detailed than what is available through the software. For Federal and each state return, it shows the time stamp, its e-file status, the e-file submission i.d., and the DCN. The submission i.d. is unique to each return, so CA's identifier will be different than the federal or any other states for the client. Because by Monday you will be beyond the 5 day correction period for rejected e-files, that report would prove that e-filing was done timely, because if you end up resubmitting the e-file for some reason, it is my understanding that a new e-file submission i.d. is generated and that may make it appear as if these returns were filed late. If you don't have acks by Monday, I also think you should escalate this to a higher level with Drake than with those that provide basic telephone support. There were other years where posts here indicated a delay of 2-3 days immediately after the deadline, but this seems too long to me.
  21. Wow that is weird. Not sure what to say. All my CA returns filed on the 14th and 15th were Ack'd by the end of the day on the 15th. Tom Longview, TX
  22. Yes, I and Drake both have checked, they have them they just haven't been accepted or rejected.
  23. No, these are normal tax returns. Nothing out of the ordinary, very simple, basic returns.
  24. I filed my last one at 11:00am EDT on 4/15. Duel state, OH & Ky, and Ohio Ack was back by 5:00pm. This is typical! Kentucky took until 1:30pm on 4/16. I've had the final state be two or three days later in years past. I don't know if this is a Drake issue or a state issue. I do know that it's a PITA!
  25. How can this be tuition? For education credits, money must be paid to an accredited educational institution eligible to participate in gov't student loan programs. One can no longer deduct education expenses on Sch A and even if you could, they can't be for education leading to a new profession.
  26. A client has come in and is working to become a clinical social worker. She has to be supervised while on the job for a number of hours and has paid a company some $2,000 plus at $75.00 dollars an hour at this point. There is no statement of tuition for this leaving me at a loss to determine if these expenses are in any way deductible. I have never encountered this before so appreciate any input if available. I would think the state would handle this.
